St Christopher Iba Mar Diop College of Medicine (SCIMD-COM) is identified as a medical training establishment in Luton, England. It is a satellite of Ecole de Médecine St Christopher Iba Mar Diop (EM-SCIMD) which is a college within the Universite El Hadji Ibrahima Niasse (UEIN) in Dakar, Senegal. The college has programs taught in English and French and awards the degree of Doctor of Medicine.
The college is listed in the World Health Organization updated 7th edition of the World Directory of Medical Schools. The college is also listed by the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER) in their International Medical Education Directory (IMED).
The college is an American Medical Student Association (AMSA) chartered international chapter (# 8024). "AMSA international chapters serve as unifying groups and resources for students interested in American medical education and practice, participation in the local community, and enhancement of their medical school experience."
The school lacks accreditation in the UK and achieved prominence when BBC coverage highlighted the school as an example of a loophole allowing essentially unregulated medical schools to operate in the UK. This led to an investigation by the General Medical Council, resulting in the withdrawal of registration of at least one doctor, and the publication of a list of schools on the GMC website deemed unacceptable for registration, including St. Christopher.
In the United States, SCCM is listed among "Colleges of Medicine or Schools of Medicine" which are not approved in Alabama for applications for certificates of qualification, "Questionable Foreign Medical Schools" whose graduates will be considered for licensure on a "case by case" basis in Indiana, "Unaccredited Post-Secondary Educational Institutions" in Maine, "degree suppliers that do not meet the requirements of ORS 348.609(1)" in Oregon, and "Institutions Whose Degrees are Illegal to Use in Texas" as defined by Texas Code 61.302(11).
