Great power
Hey Hobie, hope you had a great vacation. I think it might be best if we just ignore Chanakya. I don't think he will agree or compromise any time soon. Sometimes I wonder if he's actually baiting us with his controversial opinions but then again it's also possible that he's extremely nationalistic. I see you've listed the article for GA status. It think it can be done as long as it's stable (one of the requirements). All the best. Nirvana888 (talk) 14:35, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
- I agree that we should ignore Chankya. I don't think that he's baiting us or is jingostic, India as a great power isn't much of a stretch. I think he's just a highly opinionated
Edit war at Historical powers
Aside from the fact that this page needs major work there is also a long edit war going on at Historical powers I don't have time during the next few days to monitor the situation so I was wondering if I could enlist you and Nirvana888 to watch this situation. Thanks :-) -- Phoenix (talk) 19:21, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
GA
Thanks Hobie. I'll be looking at it over the next few days. Nirvana888 (talk) 00:40, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I understood you correctly. I'll try to expand on the sections although I don't have too much time on my hand for the next few days. Can Phoenix help out too? Nirvana888 (talk) 21:38, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
- Hey, I just checked Great power and saw that it has now been relisted as GA thanks to your hard work. Congrats! Nirvana888 (talk) 20:59, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for the appreciation. It was challenging, but definitely worth it. It was the first article I had gotten up to good article status. Its a great feeling. We'll have to get other articles up to ga status. --Hobie (User talk:Hobie Hunter) 21:03, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
Help
Hey Hobie, I'm still somewhat new to how to work Misplaced Pages. I know that you've know the process of how to ban or block an IP. This guy http://en.wikipedia.org/Special:Contributions/86.7.18.21
has been vandalizing pages for a while, and I don't know what I'm supposed to do in order to block this IP. Leave me a message on my talk page. Deavenger (talk) 22:47, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for that. I'll get right on it. See you on the potential superpowers page. Deavenger (talk) 20:32, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
Superpower sources on Russia
I read your comment from today about sources from user directinfo about new Russian sources on their superpower influence. I disagree with your comment simply because the content sources are overwhelming. I think this huge content of sources puts the article in 2 superpowers as one source follows the other but also several sources are very direct as superpower influence or status. If you look at the main article page on superpower, there is original sources which conflict even now posted a while ago, why aren't they taken off the main headline? Why are you bringing those sources or questioning them? I think there is a dozen or more good sources by directinfo which clearly can be used as a Russia in a superpower relation. If you don't like the youtube video, then get it from CNN, the clip says CNN interview, it wasn't modified it's just a clip from a world inflence news source and Austin Chronicle, there is so much more information to look at other sources but really where does the Austin Chronicle lose its credibility? You deleted the whole thing, so if you don't like the sources on the article, there are a lot more sources you can add on to the article. I can Google "Russia Superpower", there is a lot of valid sources. I noticed that when I Googled "USA Superpower" or "United States Superpower" also, I noticed there are the same sources content from the same source media and same authors or editorial sources from sources for the US as a superpower. So I think you are not reading the sources from directinfo as I suggest you to review your actions then saying something the conflicts on the turn around. Give the guy credit, that's a lot of information for all of us and I certainly think these are valid to use or a good percentage of them. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.129.64.1 (talk) 23:03, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
Dear Mr. |Hobbie Hunter|, I've received a message from you accusing me of deleting an entire section in some unnamed article; I don't have clue what you're referring to, because I don't believe I've done such a thing. Would you be kind enough to let know which article you're referring to and what would be the best way to respond to you directly without my having to resort to editing this page. Thank You. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.200.60.207 (talk) 22:02, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
Versace 11
Do you think that this IP 209.129.64.1 If versace 11 just trying again, because he's the only guy actually pushing for Russia being a superpower now, and is from the same state as the Versace guy was. Deavenger (talk) 23:34, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, I do think it is Versace 11 once again attempting to sir up trouble. They have the same modus operandi: pushing a particular Russian POV and using substandard sources. Some of which, ie. the Austin Chronicle are the same sources. We've seen a huge upsurge in anonymous IP postings. The page was basically dormant, and then we have this huge upwelling of anonymous IPs, some with only a few edits, and established users who have no experience with the subject. It would be worthwile to get all of the established users together and restart an investigation into Versace 11. They use the same broken English grammar and act the same way. I'll alert anybody who isn't already involved and post another complaint on the sockpuppetry noticeboard. All the best. --Hobie (talk) 23:58, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I missed most of the Versace episode, all I knew was that he kept on pushing on the Kommersant article. Though, this IP, I'm still trying to find a way to respond to him intelligently without insulting him. Deavenger (talk) 00:26, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
- I know, it's a thin line, I probably crossed it. We should inform everyone else that it might have resurfaced. I think it a happened a couple of times before, but it was minor. It would be wise to reopen it. --Hobie (talk) 01:48, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
- yeah. From what I can tell, he's from the same general area as Versace, and is doing basically what Versace was doing. Some of his points I don't know how to argue at all, like Parag using nyt and stuff like that. Any suggestions for that and if I should reply at all. I'll inform Nirvana if you haven't already. Deavenger (talk) 02:04, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
- Boy, do I love the Internet. I checked the revision page for the talk page. There are two distinct IPs, one, 209.129.64.127 links to Atascadero, California to Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo County. This one is most likely Versace 11, it's too similar to be a coincidence. We can't prove it for certain, but there is a tool called CheckUser that I think could. You'd have to get into contact with a user with access to it. The other is 76.103.119.22, which links to Petaluma, California, in the Bay Area. They're probably not that same person, although they may be coordinated. They're 220 miles apart. 209.129.64.127 is Directinfo, they've edited each other comments. Directinfo has only three contribs, all related to the superpower page. It's supicious, a new user acting like he's been monitoring the situation shows up out of the blue, then uses an IP address to edit his comments and post other posts, then a second IP comes along and continues on the same trend as the others had. It can't be a coincidince, but the two IPs being 220 miles away is baffling. --Hobie (talk) 02:33, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
- I've left a decent reply on the superpower talk page that will hopefully resolve the issue. I think the best course of action would probably be to ignore POV pushers for the time being. After all, the article is currently stable and they have stopped edit warring. My worry is that we could be in for another User:Chanakyathegreat episode of months of protracted, one-sided debate (if you could even call it that) going nowhere if we continue to feed the POV editors. This would truly be the greatest tragedy, wasting time and potentially derailing the project. If the situation gets out of hand, and an edit war resumes, a case of sockpupettry appears, or Talk page get out of control and more POV editors come on board, then an admin should be called and the issue should be dealt with swiftly. Nirvana888 (talk) 04:31, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I was going to reply to that other user, the non-ips or direct info, as he seems legit, and not a sockpuppet, from what I can tell, but I decided against it. If there's one thing I hate about wikipedia, since anyone can edit it, it just makes people like the IP put so much of their bias in it even if all the experts go against it. They can't even do proper research 2008 Russian financial crisis, , .Also, I'll inform Zebulin, as he just entered the debate at the superpower page. Deavenger (talk) 20:39, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
- Also, hobie, though I think that anyone would bother coordinating with someone 220 miles away to try to push for Russia. Unless this guy has no life at all and is all about trying to convince Russia is a superpower. Deavenger (talk) 21:54, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
- I still think that directinfo is a sock, the IP that edited his comments linked back to San Luis Obispo, where all of Versace's IP socks linked to. Besides, Directinfo has only made a few edits, all of them related to the superpower page. It's too suspicious. I'm torn between just ignoring them and hoping that they go away, and actively engaging them. The former hasn't worked with Chanakya, he's still working the power in international relations pages, including a comment left today. Actively engaging them might work, their points are poorly construed, like the flawed US national debt vs. GDP comparison. Either might work, but I'd like to see an investigation opened up. I'll alert Phoneix if you haven't already, although with anybody else who isn't in the loop. --Hobie (talk) 02:24, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
- yeah. Enairku, I personally don't think that he's one of the sock puppets, as he's been working on the Nato related pages more then superpower, and seems to do more for Ukraine then for Russia. Plus, he agrees that Russia is not a superpower, he's just trying to say how my points are wrong. I think that we shouldn't actively engange them, and wait till they make a few more edits, and if it becomes a large problem, then start the process to block them. If we're going to actively engage them, I think we should try to get Saru here, as he's the only Russian among us that I know, so they can't really accuse us of being Anti-Russian and pro american if a Russian guy is saying how Russia is not a superpower. Deavenger (talk) 20:26, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
- I left a message on Saru's talk page. His last edit was on August 31, so he might not come. Your logic that they won't attack us for being anti-Russian is a little convoluted. They'd still probably still attack us, and not him; or it might not even matter to them that Saru's Russian. But yeah, we should hold off on actively engaging them until we see how many come to our side. I left messages on Enthusiast's and Phoneix's talk pages. So far only Enthusiat has replied. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. --Hobie (talk) 13:59, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Hey Hobie, Please keep an eye on this guy. He is edit warring Potential superpower and bordering on POV pushing. Judging from his multiple blocks, past personal attacks and history of edit warring (See his Talk page), I think that intervention may be needed. Nirvana888 (talk) 23:01, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
- I just undid one of his edits. I think Nirvana is right here. I'm going to see the sources this going guy is posting to see if they're reliable sources since he keeps on pushing for them. Deavenger (talk) 23:28, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
