He was born in the Polish eastern province of Volhynia where he lived with his family until August 1943 under both Soviet and German occupations during World War II. At present, he is a Professor of Sociology in the Social Science Division of the University of New Hampshire at Manchester located in the U.S. state of New Hampshire. He lives in Manchester.
Piotrowski's research interests center on East European (specifically Poland's) history during World War II, including the Holocaust. Piotrowski is a book editor, reviewer and referee, as well as a translator. His professional engagements include over 50 lectures on the above-mentioned topics to the general public and professional organizations in America, Canada, England and Poland. He is the author of a number of articles and has contributed to the works of other authors.
