Dr. Douglas Powell, (b. December 29, 1962, Toronto) is scientific director of the International Food Safety Network (iFSN) at Kansas State University. He oversees a research team of 20 undergraduates, graduates students and research assistants, and edits the daily Food Safety Network listservs.
Dr. Powell's daily newsletter listservs, FSnet, Agnet, Animalnet and Functionalfoodnet, generated through his lab, have over 12000 subscribers in 70 countries.
He has published 23 research papers in peer-reviewed journals, 6 peer-reviewed book chapters and the 1997 book, Mad Cows and Mother’s Milk.
Dr. Powell provided the Ivan Parkin Lecture at the International Association for Food Protection annual meeting in 2000, an honour awarded for his distinguished contributions and dedication to the field of food safety.
Dr. Doug Powell and the Food Safety Network are a primary source for food safety information during outbreaks and are often quoted in mainstream media reports.
