The Velika (Great) Morava is created by the confluence of Južna (Southern) Morava (Јужна Морава) and Zapadna (Western) Morava (Западна Морава) located near the town of Kruševac. The South and the Great Morava form the longest river in Serbia. The waters of Morava are essential to the local agriculture. The gratitude of the local people for this river has been expressed in many Serbian folk songs.
The rivers' Latin name referenced in Roman documents was Margus. The southern branch was called Angrus and the western one Brongus.
