Failure is defined in ISO/CD 10303-226 as the lack of ability of a component, equipment, sub system, or system to perform its intended function as designed. Failure may be the result of one or many faults.

The term failure when searched on google is commonly used as a google bomb word. (Ex. if you search for "failure" in google, you will get Michael Moore and George W. Bush's websites as top search results, despite the lack of the word failure on their sites.
