- 29 August - Space Shuttle Discovery launches on mission STS-128
- 25 August - The Russo-South Korean Naro-1 rocket makes its maiden flight, launching the STSAT-2 spacecraft, which fails to reach orbit.
- 21 August - An Ariane 5 ECA takes the JCSAT-12 and Optus D3 communications satellites to GTO.
- 17 August - A Delta II 7925-9.5 carries the final GPS IIR-M satellite, GPS IIR-21, into orbit.
