Captain Beany is a celebrity charity fundraiser resident in Sandfields, Port Talbot, Wales. He was born Barry Kirk, but changed his name to Captain Beany by deed poll in May 1991.
He has become a local celebrity in South Wales for his charity fundraising activities. He has also run in local and general elections throughout Wales for the New Millennium Bean Party, formed in 2000 he was both leader and treasurer. In the 2005 UK general election, Beany gained 159 votes in Cardiff Central.
To date he says he has raised over £100,000 for charity through participation in various events such as the New York Marathon. Captain Beany was also designated an official tourist attraction by the Wales Tourist Board.
He also runs the Baked Bean Museum of Excellence, a museum devoted to baked beans.
