I use Misplaced Pages a lot, but this issue is the first time I am actively participating in a discussion so I apologize if I am ignorant to the convention for editing talk dicussions. I want to answer something stated on the project page: Keep. Ben is perfectly within his rights to ask for his friends at DU to help him defend his web site here. I download something from White Rose every day. Keep, keep, keep. On edit: Looks like the FReepers are getting in on the act, so expect a whole spate of deletes from them.
Just because one uses a site is not merit for a Wiki article. I'm sorry. Misplaced Pages is a tool to be used as a launching point for research and information gathering. If anybody wanted to research the "White Rose Society Website" there are plenty of more appropriate ways to do this, namely going to the website. The article in question has no real content other than a link. There is no value add. What useful information could possibly be gleaned from a short synoposis and a link to the site? That people frequent another website is not good enough. This is Wikispam.
Ben is NOT within is rights to ask people from an unrelated message board to flood keep. If you disagree, please tell me how the article would be in any way useful to them. What reference does it contain that they might ever need to look up? Why would anyone ever use the article?

Perhaps if Ben added a little history about TWS to the wiki page. I understand he didn't start the page but in order to comply with wiki rules would it be within his rights to edit the page to include information about the origins of the site, trials and tribulations he has encountered maintaining it, and general site stats?
I think the page would fit your criteria and provide valuable information for those that are trying to reference TWS when linking the site for others to check out. AnonymousArmy
- If it had merit (as in, it would be conceivable someone might actually do research on the history of his website in the future, or otherwise cares about the origins of the site) then yes. But I'd really have to see the content. I hope my point isn't lost on you -- that a Misplaced Pages article which basically only serves to link to an external website looks a lot like vanity, regardless of specific content. I mean, I could throw up my own person life story on wikipedia or link my personal website... but that wouldn't be appropriate. What makes Ben Burch / The White Rose Society of specific interest to users of Misplaced Pages? Is there historical, political, or pop culture merit? What is it? I used cheaptickets.com as a random example... if this page were allowed to stand, what's stopping every personal project, website, or blog from being put up as pure advertisement, due to the precedent it would set?
- Also, The people I see voting "keep" are people who already know about the The White Rose Society, so what's the point of this? Misplaced Pages endeavors to be on par with published encyclopedias. If Mr. Burch has a devoted web following I salute him. But I don't see that as enough to warrant a wiki page that his site exists.
