Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 11th Earl of Shaftesbury (24 June 1977–15 May 2005), known as Lord Ashley until shortly before his death, was the eldest son of the 10th Earl of Shaftesbury.
The 10th Earl went missing in November 2004 and his body was discovered near Nice in early 2005. The then Lord Ashley technically inherited the Earldom immediately upon on the death of his father. However, as his father was only believed to be missing, the inheritance was actually not realised until his body was found. At the age of 27, only a few months after the death of his father, Lord Shaftesbury died of a heart attack in New York City, and was succeeded in his peerages by his brother Nicholas, the 12th Earl.
