Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao (Template:Te) (born 17 February 1954) abbreviated KCR, is a member of the 15th Lok Sabha of India. He is a Member of Parliament from the Mahaboobnagar constituency of Andhra Pradesh and is the president of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi. He was the cabinet minister for Labour and Employment.
Early life
Rao was born in Chintamadaka village near Siddipet in Medak district. He did his Masters in Telugu Literature. He began as an immigration agent and is popularly known as Dubai Chandrashekar.
Political career
He was a member of the Telugu Desam Party and served as Deputy Speaker until he resigned from the party.
TRS party formation
He formed the Telangana Rashtra Samithi for the cause of Telangana as a separate state. TRS fought the 2004 general elections in alliance with Congress. It was able to win 5 MP seats. TRS was part of the UPA coalition government led by Congress until it had withdrawn its support citing the reason that UPA was not in a mood to give nod for separate Telangana state. In 2009, it fought the general elections part of the opposition coalition.
Fast unto death
K. Chandrasekhar Rao, launched a fast-unto-death demanding separate Telangana. He ended his 11 days long fast after the Government of India announced on December 9th, 2009 to initiate the process of state of Telangana in Andhra Pradesh assembly with discussions.
Personal life
K. Chandrashekhar Rao is married to Shobha and they have a son K. T. Rama Rao, a legislator, and daughter K. Kavitha.
