Finnic (Fennic) may also refer to the peoples speaking these languages, and their hunter culture (cf. fenni), laterwards living in Karelia, Ingria, Estonia, Finland, North Scandinavia. Finnic used in this way establish the contrast to the Samis, Slavonics, Balts and the Scandinavians (or the Germanic peoples). However, Fenni in old Norse means Sami.
