Larry Lee was a long time friend of Jimi Hendrix and eventually joined Hendrix's new band Gypsy Sun and Rainbows as rhythm guitar player. The newly formed band played the Woodstock Music Festival at which Hendrix played his legendary version of the Star Spangled Banner.Larry Lee joined Gypsy Sun and Rainbows a week before woodstock begun, Hendrix just called on someone that was close to him to join him as a second guitarist. Lee had only been back from the war for three weeks before hendrix called upon him and he seemed very rusty, and seemed to have culture shock as he preformed with a head scarf around his face. Lee preferred to play a Gibson Les Paul guitar.
