Prilep (Macedonian:Прилеп) is a municipality in southern Republic of Macedonia. Prilep is also the name of the city where the municipal seat is found.
The municipality borders Čaška and Dolneni municipality in the north, Kavadarci in the east, Krivogaštani, Mogila and Novaci in the west and Greece in the south.
Geography
The municipality spreads over the norteastent part of the Pelagonia valey, it takes also a past of Mariovo region.
Demographics
The population of the municipality is 76 768 of whom aproximately 70 000 live in the municipality center Prilep, the rest lives in the suburbs and the vilages of the municipality.
According to the last National Macedonian census the majority in the municipality is represented by the Macedonians: 64 527, the following are the Albanians: 29, Roma: 4 421 , Turks: 254, Serbs: 315 and others.
By the 2003 territorial division of the republic, the rural Topolčani municipality and Vitolište municipality were attached to Bitola municipality. Without these two municipalities the population of the municipality of Bitola was 71 899 according to the National census of 1994, and 73,351 at the last census .The population of the abolished in 2003 Topolčani municipality in 1994 was 3 385, and according to the last cencus was 2 923. The population of the abolished in 2003 Vitolište municipality in 1994 was 882, and according to the last cencus was 494. With the Teritorial administrative division of the republic in 2003 the municipalities of Capari and Bistrica were atached to Bitola and so the population of the present day municipality is 76 768.
The number of the inhabited places in the municipality is 59. There is one town and 58 villages.
