Coupled human-environment system

I spent a little while this morning adding citations and working on the lead to this article. Obviously it still requires lots of work, but I have given the article enough of a start to get rid of the NPOV issues.Thompsma (talk) 19:32, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the Barnstar. I put a bit more information, refs, and edits to the lead. I'm a bit busy with my thesis right now, but may pop in from time to time to polish that article up.Thompsma (talk) 06:43, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Adelbert Range Trek

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Adelbert Range Trek, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Misplaced Pages:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Epeefleche (talk) 07:12, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification

Hi. When you recently edited El Musel, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Cantabrian (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

MSU Interview

Dear RoyBoy,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Misplaced Pages administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 07:26, 12 February 2012 (UTC) Young June Sah --Yjune.sah (talk) 04:26, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Sounds good to me, I've added my name to the list. - RoyBoy 17:14, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Accuracy of Vagina article

RoyBoy, as someone who strives for accuracy on anatomical/medical topics, and as someone who has worked with me on the G-Spot article, would you mind reading my statements in the Talk:Vagina#Changes about anatomy and sexual activity section and commenting on them there? I have asked Misplaced Pages talk:WikiProject Medicine and Misplaced Pages talk:WikiProject Sexology and sexuality to weigh in, but, as shown in this diff, requests for help from the projects that are there to help on topics like these can be ignored. They often are ignored, I've found. Flyer22 (talk) 20:27, 25 May 2012 (UTC)

Hiya! Oh yes, the G-spot... good times that. ;D I looked over the section and diff's, frankly I'm confused by Richiez edits. Nigelj analysis is better than what I can muster this week, though not as entertaining! I'll stay on the sidelines for now, mainly not to pile on, but I intend to help improve refs. - RoyBoy 03:10, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
Okay, thank you, RoyBoy. I appreciate it. I'm glad that others have also weighed in and are helping. Flyer22 (talk) 20:43, 26 May 2012 (UTC)

Non-free rationale for File:Spy - Harry Ferguson & Sandy Williams.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Spy - Harry Ferguson & Sandy Williams.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Misplaced Pages is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 21:08, 27 June 2012 (UTC)

Vandalism on Infanticide

I thought an experienced admin should be aware of the activities of this user on the infanticide article. I forewent giving him a vandalism notice myself before coming to you due to the seriousness of the content he posted (he makes makes apparent personal, and potentially libelous, attacks on off-wiki persons, amongst other vitriolic claims) and the fact that his talk page is nothing but warnings anyway. Snow (talk) 05:09, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

My mistake, the references he made are in fact to women convicted of infanticide; that was sloppy on my part, I was looking at the names in mark-up and didn't notice they were linked to articles and just assumed they were a continuation of his anti-abortion rant. Nonetheless, the bulk of his edits still consist of vandalism. Though I don't know that it's necessarily intentional vandalism so much as a radical POV and a complete lack of understanding of policy. Snow (talk) 05:35, 4 July 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for this notice. I don't mind people feeling out Misplaced Pages with their views, so long as they begin to exercise self-control and contribute. But this was flagrant, blocking now. - RoyBoy 03:50, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
NP. Yeah, I felt it was markedly over the line too, even considering the unceasingly contentious nature of such a page. I happened to be there while considering the RfC on Talk:Abortion and I thought "Well, at least I have a page open already that is guaranteed to have an admin who's dealt with something in this vein before." Snow (talk) 04:52, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of The Merchants of Souls

The article The Merchants of Souls has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

A search for reliable, secondary sources reveals an insufficient amount of significant coverage. This article fails Misplaced Pages's notability guidelines for books.

While all contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Examples of convolution

I saw the wiki page, but I couldn't find any examples using actual numbers evaluating the formula. Could you give some examples of convolution, please? Mathijs Krijzer (talk) 22:21, 9 March 2013 (UTC)

Definition

The convolution of f and g is written fg, using an asterisk or star. It is defined as the integral of the product of the two functions after one is reversed and shifted. As such, it is a particular kind of integral transform:

( f g ) ( t )     {\displaystyle (f*g)(t)\ \ \,}   = d e f   f ( τ ) g ( t τ ) d τ {\displaystyle {\stackrel {\mathrm {def} }{=}}\ \int _{-\infty }^{\infty }f(\tau )\,g(t-\tau )\,d\tau }
= f ( t τ ) g ( τ ) d τ . {\displaystyle =\int _{-\infty }^{\infty }f(t-\tau )\,g(\tau )\,d\tau .}       (commutativity)

Domain of definition

The convolution of two complex-valued functions on R

( f g ) ( x ) = R d f ( y ) g ( x y ) d y {\displaystyle (f*g)(x)=\int _{\mathbf {R} ^{d}}f(y)g(x-y)\,dy}

is well-defined only if f and g decay sufficiently rapidly at infinity in order for the integral to exist. Conditions for the existence of the convolution may be tricky, since a blow-up in g at infinity can be easily offset by sufficiently rapid decay in f. The question of existence thus may involve different conditions on f and g.

Circular discrete convolution

When a function gN is periodic, with period N, then for functions, f, such that fgN exists, the convolution is also periodic and identical to:

( f g N ) [ n ] m = 0 N 1 ( k = f [ m + k N ] ) g N [ n m ] . {\displaystyle (f*g_{N})\equiv \sum _{m=0}^{N-1}\left(\sum _{k=-\infty }^{\infty }{f}\right)g_{N}.\,}

Circular convolution

Main article: Circular convolution

When a function gT is periodic, with period T, then for functions, f, such that fgT exists, the convolution is also periodic and identical to:

( f g T ) ( t ) t 0 t 0 + T [ k = f ( τ + k T ) ] g T ( t τ ) d τ , {\displaystyle (f*g_{T})(t)\equiv \int _{t_{0}}^{t_{0}+T}\leftg_{T}(t-\tau )\,d\tau ,}

where to is an arbitrary choice. The summation is called a periodic summation of the function f.

Discrete convolution

For complex-valued functions f, g defined on the set Z of integers, the discrete convolution of f and g is given by:

( f g ) [ n ]   = d e f   m = f [ m ] g [ n m ] {\displaystyle (f*g)\ {\stackrel {\mathrm {def} }{=}}\ \sum _{m=-\infty }^{\infty }f\,g}
= m = f [ n m ] g [ m ] . {\displaystyle =\sum _{m=-\infty }^{\infty }f\,g.}       (commutativity)

When multiplying two polynomials, the coefficients of the product are given by the convolution of the original coefficient sequences, extended with zeros where necessary to avoid undefined terms; this is known as the Cauchy product of the coefficients of the two polynomials.

File source problem with File:Jimbo Wales Goatee.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Jimbo Wales Goatee.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Misplaced Pages. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Magog the Ogre (tc) 05:06, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

Dave vonKleist

Hi, the Dave vonKleist article is up for deletion. Well, myself and a couple of others believe it's being deliberately sabotaged to get rid of it. Censorship comes to mind. Anyway besides that I know that you're familiar with the subject and wonder of you have some time to help improve it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Boss Reality (talkcontribs) 22:31, 13 August 2014 (UTC)

Trust, but verify

Trust, but verify is old (but still solid) advice. Just a light-hearted link to a quirky little article. - 2/0 (cont.) 18:49, 20 September 2014 (UTC)

Thanks again, wow that was messed up. Did we just post to each other's talk pages in the same minute about different things? Freaky. - RoyBoy 18:54, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
Looks like it. Certainly I got your notice by saving this page and got a laugh when I saw who was pinging me. Happy editing. - 2/0 (cont.) 19:05, 20 September 2014 (UTC)

Abortion: "Art, literature and film"

Since going back in the history files I see that you were the one who created this section of the abortion article, I thought I'd make sure that you know (what you probably already know) that it was recently removed from the article. There was a discussion about it on the article's Talk page at "Anne Sexton/Don't be buffaloed." KatieHepPal (talk) 19:49, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
