There are an unknown number of Iranians in Pakistan, the vast majority of whom live in Karachi and Lahore. Some are students, others are political asylum seekers. Other colonies can be found in Faisalabad, Islamabad, Peshawer and in the city of Multan. Most Iranians in Pakistan are Shia Muslims, although a number of Sunnis and Parsis in Pakistan claim Iranian origins.

Moreover, the major ethnic groups Pashtuns and Balochis are considered in the Iranian linguistic group and are considered Iranian peoples. The Pashtun and Baloch regions of Pakistan are geographically part of the Iranian plateau.
