Amongst all the universities affiliated to Anna University, SSNCE is rated number 1. With a strong industrial backing it is fast emerging into an institution providing an international educational experience in India. The Institution earned ISO 9001:2000 Certification on August 11, 2004 from Bureau Veritas Quality International.

Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering was started under the University of Madras in 1996. This institution was the brainchild of Shiv Nadar chairman of HCL Technologies group of companies, who wanted to give back to the society which has given him so much. Initially the trust was founded by Mr. Shiv Nadar and Justice Pratap Singh.

Campus Locality

The college started functioning from 1996 at a temporary location in Thoraipakkam in the suburbs of Chennai. SSNCE moved to a sprawling 250 Acre campus at Kalavakkam in 1998. SSN Department of biomedical engineering

With a strong urge to serve the human race the college recently started its bio-medical department to provide a quality undergraduate program in this upcoming field. The college sports top-notch laboratory facilities for this particular course and has plans to have tie-ups with international universities for the students to pursue their higher education. As of now there have been more than 25 papers published by the members of this department and the department's focus is mainly on research in the field of biomedical engineering. Controversies: "All the papers which are claimed to be published are all in local colleges whose standards fall well below what is expeceted" claims a former student, who is presently a student of NCSU-USA.

Controversies

Despite the claims made above there is a marked difference in opnion among many former students of the institution. "The college does not recognise real talent" is most often quoted by many former pupils. Also there are proofs to show that only less than 30% of the campus is green!.

Many former students also regard the standard of the teaching staff to be well below par."They think the standards set by them is great but actually its very much on the contrary" says a dissatisfied former students.SSN got the 1st rank status for a number of semesters according to Anna University rankings. But the thing which everyone has forgot to consider is,this college has only 6 courses,so the number of students enrolled is also less.So the pass percentage ratio cannot be taken as great when comparing with other institutions which have more number of courses.
