Greetings, old friend!

I wondered if you could find me the Medieval Greek version of the name of Stefan Nemanja - a medieval figure I've been working on for some time... Also, have you got knowledge by any chance in IPA? --HolyRomanEmperor 20:09, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

Off to Portugal, eh? Well, have a nice time, and be sure to bring some scannable souveniers! :) --HolyRomanEmperor 17:44, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

I landed in Seville yesterday, just after the Portugal-England match. I asked my brother to tape the match but the pilot ruined it by announcing the final result through the plane intercom. I'll stay here till tomorrow and then move on to the Algarve for 3 or 4 nights (ready for Portugal-France on Wednesday, he he). Sorry about your question above but can't really help here (I wouldn't know where to start searching for it). About the souvenirs, well I'll obviously have to buy now one of those "weather-predicting roosters" (a plastic chicken whose feathers change of colour according to atmospheric presure and humidity) :o) I also have my phone to take some photos, so even if the image resolution is not too high sometimes you get quite decent results (see Hibaldstow). Thanks, E Asterion 07:59, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

I request a ban for user Skinnyweed

Skinnyweed has been rude to others on the Falkland Island page. I suggest something to be done since this is not the first time. Thanks (XGustaX 23:48, 2 July 2006 (UTC))

Need an admin's help

Hey there Asterion! You were the first fellow admin I could spot on the recent changes list as being active right now. Could you respond to my WP:AN/I request? Thanks in advance if you can. Harro5 09:45, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

Sorry mate, I am not an admin yet. E Asterion 09:47, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

Mediation time on Kosovo

I don't think we're getting anywhere with the Kosovo introduction, particularly since Ferick has openly rejected WP:NPOV and is now refusing to discuss sources. Accordingly, I've submitted a request for mediation. Please indicate on that page whether you consent to having the matter mediated. -- ChrisO 09:34, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

I have no problem with that. I will point that out in the page. Please note that this problem with Ferick is also leaking to a number of related articles too. Regards, E Asterion 09:38, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Re:Impersonator?

Hmm, I'm not sure what I can do about this. It's obvious that this could cause some confusion. I don't think it was created with a malicious intent, but nevertheless, is there something I can do about it? I would appreciate any help you can provide on this matter. --Dr.Gonzo 12:59, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

¡Hola, Asterion!

¡Hola!

--Burgas00 18:43, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

-- Szvest 21:46, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Pues que hago ahora, entonces?--Burgas00 21:59, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Presentar el caso a Misplaced Pages:Requests for mediation o bien mejor a Misplaced Pages:Requests for arbitration. -- Szvest 22:08, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

RE: V or B

Pronounciation for Spanish names must be given in standard Spanish, which is understood as the unmarked pronunciation, not in regional variations: i.e. Sevilla is not down as /se·biː·ʝa/ although this is the local pronunciation (instead /se·biː·ʎa/). I have no intention on edit-warring on this, I just want you to understand that this is not a matter of respecting local sensibilities but writing an encyclopedia. By the same rule, most -if not all- the placenames in Latin America containing "za", "ce", "ci", "zo" or "zu" would be transcribed as /sa/, /se/ and so on, because the local seseo. Regards, E Asterion 21:50, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

First of all, thanks because you write me a message. Answering it, you can see that in the article it mentions "Castilian Spanish", so at it's meaning a specific variation of Spanish used there, I think it's possible to explain how is the pronunciation of the name of the city. Anyway, I'm agree with you that the Spanish words should be in stantard pronunciation for nouns, adjectives, etc... but I think that the name of a city should be recommended to give the local form. If sevillans really pronounces their city as /se·biː·ʝa/, I think it should written in the article, and the same way for Latin American toponyms. Local forms of a language in some cases should be respected and protected instead of being banned.--Joanot Martorell 06:43, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for caring, but you do not need to check it out any more. I will add more content to it. If I get bogged down in another edit war, I will let you know. --Zmaj 06:58, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. I know who it is. --VKokielov 14:57, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

My RfA

Regarding my RfA, I would like to thank you for your support. Although my RfA did not pass, I am hopeful that a future one will. I hope you will vote again when I try again. Paul Cyr 21:52, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

Spanish architecture

Hi Asterion. Could you please have a look at the Collaboration of the week dedicated to Spanish architecture. I've just created the stub after User:Garcilaso's initiative. Cheers -- Szvest 21:17, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

Pages needing translation

A page you listed for tranlsation, Fusagasugá, has been translated into English by me, as well as Fabricationary and Fsotrain09. The article is still in poor shape. However, I will tranlsate the corresponding Spanish article completely as soon as I'm done with my current project. I'll let you know when I've finished, It might not be for a few days. Cheers, RyanGerbil10 (Drop on in!) 04:01, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, you have done a good job. I will proofread it later on (I am a native speaker of Spanish). --E Asterion 08:28, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Re: Ferick?

See here for proof; plus, I received an e-mail from this person asking for an IP unblock that was identical to a previous e-mail by Nookdog. RadioKirk (u|t|c) 20:12, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

I might be willing to unblock Ferick if indeed this is a different person (bear in mind, I got a nearly identical e-mail from the two at different times asking for unblocks, and Ferick has never responded to my request for his IP), but I've blocked Nookdog's IP and, if Ferick edits from there, he'll still be blocked. As for Nookdog, there is confirmation of massive sockpuppetry from that IP; he gets no more chances per exhaustion of the community's patience. RadioKirk (u|t|c) 17:17, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
RadioKirk, I think the evidence is convincing... nonetheless I'm still puzzled by the fact that Nookdog and Ferick (a) edited in completely different areas, with no overlap that I can see, and (b) the two have completely different styles of writing. The only thing that I can think of that might explain this would be one person creating multiple personas to edit on different topics, though that doesn't satisfactorily explain the totally different writing styles. -- ChrisO 18:00, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
You may indeed be right, ChrisO. I have nothing to say about Nookdog as he has gone too far indeed. I just found the link to Ferick kind of bizarre. Ferick mentioned in Talk:Kosovo he got autoblocked before. He also edited from IP 69.81.28.114 there (ISP: Mindspring). Not sure if that helps. Thanks, E Asterion 19:25, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
You may need to check the AN/I archives, but checkuser has clearly established User:216.164.203.90 as a sock farm and it is not to be unblocked without extraordinary evidence proving its use as a vandal farm has stopped. RadioKirk (u|t|c) 06:28, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your patience. I didn't know Ferick had used that IP. E Asterion 06:59, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

I used what IP? I need somebody to do a thro out investigation of my username and clear my account. Its ridicules that I have been accuse of being a suck puppet of Nookdog when it’s obvious there is no connection between me and this other user. I have now been blocked for over a week, and no one seems to care. Is there a responsible administrator out there who can investigate this stupid allegation? Ferick

Hi Ferick, I will contact RadioKirk again and request a CheckUser on your behalf to User:Essjay if you want to clear your name. Please note that this may not prove conclusive and it is up to the admins to decide on the block. If there is no connection between your account and the IP 216.164.203.90, you are pretty much in the clear. Regards, E Asterion 17:16, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
Some misspelling issues, that's about it (also, 216.164.203.90 resolves either to PA or MA, depending on the whois service, while 24.31.228.254 resolves to Kansas City, MO, and neither appears to be a proxy, which argues for Ferick). I've requested an e-mail to use for further review, but I have yet to receive one. RadioKirk (u|t|c) 17:38, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

I have sent you an email days ago and no response on you side. What kind of email do you want sir? Here is the email i sent you: From: <balkanupdate@gmail.com> Mailed-By: gmail.com To: radiokirk@fastmail.fm Date: Jul 21, 2006 2:43 PM Subject: Ferick

Sorry if I sound harsh, but I don't think you should revert with an edit summary citing vandalism here. This is a common mistake for random passers-by to say nice things about their sporting heroes. Thanks, Blnguyen | rant-line 07:20, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

I just realised I used the wrong button (revert vandal instead rollback). If you check the warning I left in the anon's page, I chose {{subst:joke}} which is more adequate of course. Thanks for letting me know. E Asterion 07:23, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

FYI

Gibraltarian has made (or has attempted to make) an appeal - see Misplaced Pages talk:Arbitration Committee. It seems he's still unrepentent even in his appeal statement. 23:35, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

So unrepentant that he just blanked my talk page. That's the spirit! E Asterion 23:36, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

User talk:172.178.10.219

Just a quick question. Is User:Hipi Zhdripi always this interesting to deal with? -- Ricky81682 (talk) 18:06, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

I can assure you he is. If you get more troubles from him, just remember that he's been permablocked before. Well, the problem is he edits from an AOL account so there's no point on blocking the IP. Regards, E Asterion 19:29, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

RfC

--Burgas00 18:17, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Que ha pasao con Gibnews porcierto? Se ha pirao o que? No tengo noticias suyas.

No me creerá seguro... --Burgas00 19:19, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Plaza Pictures

I sent them to your first email. Ferick 21:12, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Got them, thanks! E Asterion 21:21, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Re Categoria Al-Andalus

Yes it is very likely that he's using a sockpuppet account. I'll deal w/ that this week-end. -- Szvest 11:27, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

Pajero pic

Oh yeah. I thought the pic on the automotive box was a Gen I, but it's a SWB Gen II (and it was on the Gen II subheading anyway). There's no Gen I pic so I'm putting it back. But the article is currently kind of small to have that many pictures lying around. It doesn't need more than one picture per generation. --Pc13 08:29, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

I see what you mean. We could try using a <gallery>? (or even better expanding the article text :o)). Cheers, E Asterion 23:06, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Lincoln Castle picture

See Lincoln Castle (ferry) (RJP 17:29, 29 July 2006 (UTC))

Thank you for the barnstar. I don't think I had seen that sort before. (RJP 20:06, 30 July 2006 (UTC))
You're very welcome. The article is quite good indeed! If I get some time next month, I'll try to get some more pics of the Lincoln Castle from a different angle. I still got to visit the Fishing Heritage Museum any given day :o) E Asterion 21:44, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

{{Lincolnshire}}

I agree that the template does not go well with some of the pages, especially with the infoboxes, so do you think that it would be better if the templates were below the infoboxes. Do you you know of any code that could do this? I think also that I ought to remove it from the Lincolnshire districts pages as they are particullarly messy. Lofty 08:40, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Ferick RFC

Hi Asterion,

Thanks for intervening in the latest Ferick-Boris spat. Unfortunately I don't think this is something that's going to be resolved through discussion or appeals to reason, as Ferick has shown every sign of wanting to continue edit warring, ignoring consensus, deleting content for POV reasons, etc. I plan to take the matter to a user-conduct RFC shortly as a prelude to arbitration, should that be necessary, with a view to banning him from Kosovo-related articles. He's been told what the rules are on plenty of occasions, so I think he needs to be given a simple choice now: follow the rules or get thrown out. I'll notify you and the other contributors to Talk:Kosovo and related pages when the RfC has been posted (hopefully Tuesday). -- ChrisO 21:58, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

No problem. I understand. There is also a clash of personalities going on too, which makes things quite unworkable too. I am no longer watching the Kosovo article (it was simply taking too much of my wikitime that I can put to better use somewhere else), so I would appreciate if you drop me a note here instead. Regards, E Asterion 22:05, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
I rather think that the clash of personalities (which certainly exists, I agree) is secondary to Ferick's refusal to play by the rules of Misplaced Pages. It's at least arguable that if he wasn't such a plainly POV editor, other editors wouldn't clash with him so much. I'll drop you a line on your talk page when I've posted the RfC - I hope you'll be willing to add your views! -- ChrisO 22:11, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
Yes, I will do so. Thanks again. E Asterion 22:13, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
