Ken Lucas (born January 23, 1979) is a football player with the Carolina Panthers. The 2006 season will mark his second year as starting DB for the team.
Seattle Seahawks
Lucas was selected as the 40th overall pick in the 2001 NFL Draft, going to the Seattle Seahawks in the 2nd round. He started his first game as a rookie against the Cleveland Browns, deflecting a pass late in the game to preserve Seattle's win. His first NFL interception came later in the season off the San Diego Chargers' QB Doug Flutie.
In 2002, during his second season, Lucas was awarded NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors after intercepting two passes from Michael Vick of the Atlanta Falcons. He went on to record a career-high 82 tackles that season.
In 2004 Lucas again earned the title of NFC Defensive Player of the Week after two interceptions off the St. Louis Rams' QB Marc Bulger. His first NFL touchdown came later in the season on a 21-yard interception return off a pass thrown by Josh McCown of the Arizona Cardinals. He set two career-high statistics during the 2004 season, defensing 21 passes and making 6 interceptions.
Carolina Panthers
Lucas was signed by the Panthers in 2005 as an unrestricted free agent. He started 15 games in his first year with the Panthers, finishing a second consecutive season with 6 interceptions. He intercepted 2 more passes in the postseason, including a critical one against Chicago Bears' QB Rex Grossman with 2:33 remaining in the game.
