"PowerBook" is Apple Computer's brand name for its series of Macintosh laptop computers.

The first model was the PowerBook 100, (October 1991 - August 1992) which had a clock speed of 16MHz.

In 1992 Apple released a hybrid portable/desktop computer, the "PowerBook Duo": a laptop which could be anchored to a docking station which could provide the system with extra memory or storage space and be connected to a monitor.

Since then, Apple has regularly redesigned the casing and upgraded the specification. Many new Powerbook models broke new ground for laptop computers in terms of processing power, weight and size.

In January 2001 came the first PowerBook to feature the PowerPC G4 processor, running at 500MHz and upgraded to 733 in October 2001. Its notable features include the large screen (15.2", resolution of 1152x768) and the case made of titanium.
