quick hook on blocking pages?

HI,

I'm wondering what the criteria for accepting a page protection request is. Doesn't automagic acceptance of a request mean that one unhappy camper can thumb his/her nose at the world, at will? What if (for a hypothetical example....) a page is up for "Good Article" review, and someone doesn't want the topic to receive that staus...? Just wondering --Ling.Nut 13:43, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

America's Next Top Model

I notice that you changed the ANTM template, which I also wanted to do, but didn't for want of knowing how to unprotect. Some realitycrufter has reversed all your changes, resulting in many double-redirects which I am sure you also wanted to avoid. As deleted candidates' namespace is now always redirected to the program's main page, it would be useful if you restored your changes and reprotected it. Questions on record

  1. Which, according to you are important records in Batting??
  2. Why was the golden arm term removed. It is told by reputed cricket sources. If well establish cricket writers refer him by one word, it should be taken as such. Remember that Rahul Dravid or Sehwag is not referred by that term. Please note that I have already explained this in the talk section. Don't say that it gives an image as if he is a great bowler to those who don't know about cricket.

"Man with a golden arm" is a description. When he has broken more than one partnership, any bowler can be called with that term. I don't think that it is a NPOV problem. If the sentence had been "he is a bowler who always breaks partnership" that is a different story. THe description "with golden arm" is usually applied to "part time bowlers" who get wickets of well settled batsmen. The term is not used for the regular bowlers. You can read the old literature and will find that Srilanka's man with golden arm was De Silva (and Not Vaas or Murali) and Australians used that term for Mark Waugh (and not McGrath and Warne) and Mike Clarke (he has so far taken 8 wickets in 20 matches) and in Windies it will be Viv Richards and not Walsh. Hence this is just a FACT. Only if we tell that "Mr.Tendulkar is a bowler who breaks partnerships as soon as he is called to bowl" that will be not be a Neutral Point of View. You cannot ordinarily write this term (golden arm) on the article of Murali or Warne or Walsh. They are bowlers who can get any batsman out. I am sure that now the confusion is cleared.

Please read the line I have given "Inspite of his bowling average....." IF someone gets an impression that a person with just 37 wickets in 132 matches (that is one wicket every 8 innings) with a bowling average of over 40 "is a great bowler", it is the fault of the reader. If the term golden arm had been in the first stanza of the article without the other details (which very well tell that the person described is a part time bowler), that can cause some confusion. But in the present scenario, it is just a fact and has no NPOV problems.

Sachin tendulkar does not have a higher rate of taking wickets that break partnerships when you compare him with Muralitharan or Agarkar who are bowlers. If he has something like that, he will be termed as an allrounder and not a batsman with a golden arm. Is that clear. The NPOV issue arises only if we say that Sachin is a genuine test bowler or an allrounder (then only we can compare him with Courtney Walsh or Imran Khan. The term "golden arm" is not limited to ONLY ONE PLAYER (that is the person with maximum wickets or minimum average etc). It is a much general term

First of all, the description "golden arm" is not a rigid description that can be "proved" with statistics. As I have repeatedly told you, there is no "criteria" that exists to tell a player as "someone with a golden arm". The term is used for batsman who occasionally bowl and break partnerships. THis is the most I can explain. Other facts (including citations) have been already given by me.

It means that a batsman, who is not a regular bowler, occasionally breaks partnership. Sachin is definitely inferior to Kapil and Kumble at breaking partnership. That is a fact. But Kapil and Kumble are not called with the term because Kapil is an allrounder and Kumble a bowler. On the other hand, Sachin is better than Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman, Sadagopan Ramesh, Kambli, Gavaskar etc at breaking partnership, and that is the reason cricket wrtiers (not me and you) have given this term to him. The same is true about Clarke, who is an inferior bowler compared to McGrath and Warne. Yet Warne and McGrath are not called as men with golden arm, because they are bowlers. On the other hand Clarke is better than, (for example) Hayden and Ponting and hence called with the term. Is this clear.

Sachin Tendulkar's Golden Arm

The single handed has been modified to another match. I am sure that every one agrees with the contribution in this match. Please don't ask a question as if no one else fielded in the match and whether he was the only person in the stadium. By the way, I am not able to understand as to your edits regarding Golden Arm. It is a term used by reputed Cricket Writers and it was well quoted. I had given more than one citation for that also. Why was that removed. Any sensible explanation ????. One explanation that is damn stupid is telling that "it may mislead those who don't know anything about cricket and they may think that he is a great bowler". Please don't give that explanation... PLEASE..... Rejecting a well known and well established fact with a hypothetical theory that a newbie may misunderstand seems very awkward. If you go like this, then when you say caught at mid wicket, some one new to cricket may think that the batsman was caught between the stumps and hence mid wicket violates NPOV etc. Similarly, a person who is new to cricket may think that Fine leg means Aiswarya Rai. If you think carefully, every (or most) term in cricket has another meaning outside cricket. Citing POV telling that those not knowing cricket my misunderstand is a very bad argument. If you have any other opinion tell us. Or else, please revert yourself. As a respect for you, I am not reverting this edit (Golden Arm) myself. Doctor BrunoTalk 14:02, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Disclaimer

Hi everyone. If this is your first time filling out a survey, read this. To fill out a questionaire sheet, simply send me a post to my talk page, clearly stating your choice for each answer. For example: For Question 1, you might choose to place on the message, "Q1: A)" or "Question 1: Choice A." etc etc. It's up to you, as long as I get the general jist of what your choices are. You have around 1 week to return a survey sheet, but late entrie's will be accepted.

Remember however, your personal choices may be read whilst they are on my talk page. I will understand if you don't wish to answer some or all of the survey due to this. For this reason I have also placed an "Abstain" choice for each question. Try & answer truthfully, or don't answer at all if you can't.

However, your personal choices will not be expressed on the survey's outcome, instead it will be part of a larger finding, such as "60% of people eat chocolate, 25% never eat chocolate & 5% of people chose to abstain from answering..." I will never say, "90% of people eat chocolate, while only Fruityman said he didn't..." This would be an invasion of privacy. However, if a question has (Please explain) or (Please elaborate) as a choice, your specific answer may be used in the survey outcome, although your name will not be. If a question does not have (Please explain) as a question choice, but your intended choice is not represented on the choice list, then feel free to provide another choice which fits your description.

You're probably getting bored reading all of this so I'll wrap up. To see outcomes of the results, see my Polls subpage. Feel free to comment on anything! Feedback is always welcome. Most importantly, have fun. Topics will vary greatly & surveys may be resent out at later times to re-assess a consensus if survey numbers have grown significantly. If you know anyone who would be interested in these surveys, send them to my talk page or if you see this survey sheet, send your own answers in! Thanks. -- Spawn Man.

Marathi people article

Thanks for ur reply. But a important questiom,do i have to make those changes within next 2 days???I mean I will need more time to collect info and citations.

The comment about Maharashtrian cricketers were about their dominance in the world of (Indian cricket). But I will refine the sentence.I will expand the list as u suggested.

Madhuri Dixit's pic is taken from Misplaced Pages itself! Can i use that strip if I remove her pic,or perhaps have some screenshot of it?I have another Madhuri's pic but I dont know about its copyright info etc.

I never said YOU attacked Maharashtra.I know ur not a Indian and hence neutral.I was apprehensive about a user badmouthing against me in ur talk page. mahawiki 09:52, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

Re Marathi people

I have removed all the POV sounding statements. I have also added references and citations, in case someone wants them. Also, Zaheer plays for Baroda team but he is originally from Maharashtra from a village in between Pune and Nashik. He speaks fluent Marathi at his home and many times with Marathi media as well. He has a restaurant in Pune as well.

Thanx for the help.

Marathi article

Bl, I spent about 20 mins reviewing the article and adding tags and removing POV. It is not upto some user to simply do away with the tag and continue building the article. I dont have problems if the article grows, but the editors should atleast have the basic courtesy and manners to keep the tags until they've provided proper citations. And why should I keep spending more and more time adding the same tags. Let Arya who removed the tags pay for it and do the hard work. I just want my tags back on the article. Or I will go ahead and delete entries for which I had asked for citation and Arya simply deleted those tags. And as for your entry I think you only entered Wadekar there, I'll put that in myself if you want but Arya cannot take WP audience for fools by simply doing away with legitimate tags. Sarvagnya 08:13, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

See the diff between my ver+Wadekar and Arya's ver here. Things like "Director extra ordinaire", "Greatest" of Satavahana kings etc., are blatantly POV or need to be referenced. Same goes for titles like "goal poacher" etc., which is certainly not 'common knowledge'. Sarvagnya 08:22, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Ok.Thanks for ur info.

Sarvagnya is crossing the limits

Dear admin, I request u to take some steps against this vandal,Sarvagnya. He has been lost his battles in Belgaon or Kaveri and hence he is coming on Marathi people page to show its colors.I am naming it battle because this guy is extraordinarily rude and arrogant to work with. If he can vandalise Marathi people article,I can vandalise Kannadi people article also.I request u mediate. mahawiki 10:08, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Dear Admin, I request you to take this continuous accusations of vandalism on me with great seriousness. You know what edits I had made on the Marathi article. If I had to be frivolous I could add fact tags for every line on the article. But everyone knows its not so. Also note Mahawiki's edit son the Kaveri page. Even there like everywhere else, he knows zero about the subject but is simply trolling to his heart's content. Sarvagnya 14:23, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Dear admin, Please note that Sarvagnya has made some nasty comments about Chhatrapati Shivaji, of whom we are extremelely proud of.Who the hell is he to question the greatness of Shivaji Maharaj?Ask him to go and develop article on that Bangalorean amma rather than defaming our idols. He has posted some idiotic comments about Rama and Krishna on Kaveri page.He is deliberately hurting our sentiments. How can he ask for citations for each and every sentence on Marathi_people?Plz see the Kaveri talk to see how this guy blabbers all nonsense original reaseach and assumes our nod for that.

To be very frank, working with these kind of ppl is a headache. These ppl are marketing Karnataka everywhere.Note, that we have removed all POV statements on Marathi_people on ur insistance, but Kannadised rashtrakuta, Kaveri and belive me, many others are still continue to be advertisements of Kannadi culture and language.See Kannada talk page, these ppl are busy promoting it as a classical language when Kannada is perhaps a dialect of Tamil! MANY EDITORS have questioned it. mahawiki 14:33, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

I must add that Sarvagnya is being quite uncivil in his approach. Earlier, he didn't use to comment on me, but since I added my comment on Kavery talk page he is stalking my edits and openly attacking me. See talk page of Marathi people for instance. Another thing is he is deliberately insulting us. Check out his comments on Rama and Krishna. Also, see the edit summaries on Maratyhi people history page. He typed Shivaji as "Sevooji". Check it out here - history. It's extremely insulting for us. He also questions the greatness of Shivaji. In short, he is provoking us without any reason. I never went to talk with him, nor have I edited any of the articles he's edited. Still he is making insulting remarks about our culture. Apart from this, I second what Mahawiki has said about Kannada propaganda.

Dear admin , I am reverting back Rashtrakuta.Plz advice that guy against his revenge and Tit-for-tat mentality.Just because I edited Kaveri he added tags everywhere on Marathi_people. And its Dinesh who needs to be blocked with sarvagnya for their sheer narrow minded mentality of thinking Kannada is best, Tamil and Marathi are crap!Admin, once again let me request u to check the articles which I have been mentioning from long back. These Kannadis choose biased sources and then 'kannadise' it.Dont forget that Solapur have been rectified by u,but Rajkumar Kannada kaveri and many other articles along with rashtrakuta are NOTHING SHORT OF ADVERTISEMENTS . This guy Sarvagnya is rediculuous!!I think he thinks of me all 24 hours and perhaps I haunt him in his dreams!

To add,his friend has already reverted the article.Plz ask Sarvagnya not to create trouble at Marathi_people unnecessarily. mahawiki 14:40, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Bajrang Dal Debate

On the talk page of Bajrang Dal, Hkelkar brought up an issue regarding to the meaning of a sentence. I'll give you the context first: a few activists of Bajrang Dal were killed in the process of bombmaking, and many other people are accused of aiding the bombmaking, etc. Here is the sentence:

However we have come to know from the police sources that police has seized maps of a few Mosques situated in nearby districts from the houses of the accused which give credence to the rumors.

My question: Is it clear that the maps were found exactly at the houses of the accused (my view), or would you think the statement is ambiguous (Hkelkar's view)? Thanks! Mar de Sin 23:18, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Comments on Karnataka vs Maharashtra

Firstly I am getting really busy IRL, so I can only make some quick comments

  • Marathi people had some lots of hyperbolic/hagiographic assertions and adjectives which are inappropriate, and violate WP:NPOV, which I have pointed out today
  • Although POV, it would not be so clever for Sarvagnya or Dinesh point this out so much given the past history - it would be better a third party do this - If Mahawiki and Arya Rajya Maharashtra sudmitted this to WP:DYK or Featured Articles any passing editors or admins would oppose due to the current inadequate level of the article.
  • A tit-for-tat citation nit-picking war is bad - wrt those Karnataka pages
  • Using a Misplaced Pages article as a reference is circular reasoning and is considered invalid - you cannot cite yourself!
  • I will hopefully look at the articles myself soon
  • Comments implying vandalism are wrong, and nonsensical and innappropriate threats to engage in counter-Kannada vandalism is disruption and will result in a block - also see WP:POINT violation

Thanks, Blnguyen | BLabberiNg 08:52, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

  • The heated talk and words like "warmonger" are not acceptable. Blocks will be coming if this does not stop.
  • Scrutiny in cleaning up Marathi people will lead to a good article educating the world about Marathi people sooner . This would increase the likelihood that the article gets on the front page so that people can read about the culture of Maharashtra.

Blnguyen | BLabberiNg 08:56, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Sorry!!Dineshkannambadi 13:26, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

For using the word warmonger. Will refrain. Thanks Dinesh Kannambadi

Usage of the term "Kannadi"

Blnguyen: I have requested the user Mahawiki not to use the term "Kannadi" to refer Kannadigas or 'Kannada talking people' or 'people from Karnataka'. Other wikipedians such as AreJay, Dineshkannambadi, Aksi_great, Sarvagnya and Haphar too have requested/asked Mahawiki to not to use that word.

I hereby request your attention into this issue to avoid further heated debates on the issue. Thank you! - KNM 17:32, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Though I think KNM is is right, I dont see Haphar or Sarvagnya as a quotable user on the matter. They both have indulged in name-calling. Dineshkanna... is a party to the ongoing dispute so he shouldnt be quoted. Akash is the only third-party then that has told him to stop.Bakaman Bakatalk 22:40, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
What name calling? And party to what dispute? Dont mix issues. If you have anything to say about this particular issue, say that and end it. There's no need to bring in issues irrelevant to the topic of discussion. (My apologies to Blnguyen for saying this here, but I hope you dont see it as off topic and just see this. talking of name calling, unless its a case of spelling and/or grammar gone horribly wrong, he seems to have called you a 'nut'!). Sarvagnya 01:02, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

Further to this: On 29th of August 2006, Mahawiki had agreed to use the word "Kannadiga" instead of "Kannadi". Please refer to this edit in AreJay's talk page - KNM 02:07, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

(reply on my talk page) Do you like to get in India debates. The troubles with subhash bose dragged me in and Holywarrior and the fundywatch fiasco + aftermath. But they were all asingle thread of enmity, that wove itself in different ways. You seem to find all the blown-up disutes to play with. Why? Why bring it on yourself like this?Bakaman Bakatalk 22:44, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Insult of Shivaji Maharaj

User sarvagnya is trying hard to prove me wrong and requesting others to 'drop a line' againt me on ur Talk page.See http://en.wikipedia.org/User_talk:Haphar#Mahawiki_and_Arya

He is crying foul about me calling u a 'NUT' which is not true.I request u to go thru that para and u might know that I wanted that word to be 'But'.I apologise for my poor English. Its very sad to see that Sarvagnya is stooping so low to get ur agreement on blocking me!His latest post in my talk pages http://en.wikipedia.org/User_talk:Mahawiki#Language_Timothy insults Shivaji Maharaj.

And dont hide behind meaningless google hits which only maratis can read. Interestingly, google also gives a hit for Chatripati Shivaji. So right, Chatripati Shivaji(wow.. the name sounds so coooool), he is and will be from now on..

I request u to ask Sarvagnya stop bad-mouthing and lobbying against me! mahawiki 04:20, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

I must add User:Sarvagnya has been unnecessarily putting tags on Marathi people and unnecessarily harrassing us with asking for citations. Just check the history of Marathi people - History. He has insulted Shivaji Maharaj in the edit summary. These are his words - (rv to my previous version because Arya has blatantly done away with fact tags I had added without giving citations. also citation for sevooji is another WP article. its unacceptable.). How can one call Shivaji as "Sevooji". This is in totally bad taste.
I think Mahawiki has not been that much uncivil. If these Kannada fanatics provoke us what will be do. We do get angry. But you can see that it is almost always initiated by Sarvagnya. Check out my contribs. I have never edited anything which Sarvagnya is working on (although I do wonder what he works on....apart from badmouthing others and stalking others). Mahawiki was blocked once, but Sarvagnya was never punished for his constant badmouthing of Marathi leaders. As for Kannadi term, he also uses Marati, etc. Anyway, Kannadi was never a slang.

Vandalism On My Userpage

Did you see vandalism on my userpage by User:Vgowda. Did you block him ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tipu_Hero (talkcontribs)

I request the admin to take cognizance of this. Also if we compare this and
Tipu hero was spouting extremely offensive anti-Hindu rants. If Sarvagnya and I both agree on something, it probably is a major issue, as I'm not the best of buds with Sarvagnya.Bakaman Bakatalk 22:30, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
I know NOTHING about any of his anti hindu rants. I havent come across any and I just checked his contribs and couldnt find any either. Bak, post links to the appropriate diffs if what you are saying is true. Nevertheless, I feel he needs to hauled up simply for his edits I've given the links above and for the fact that he seems to be a classic case of someone's sock(I just dont know who) Sarvagnya 22:41, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
He called Sarvagnya a "Hindutva" sockpuppet. He said we were rabble rousing HindutvavadisBakaman Bakatalk 22:51, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

Will Mahawiki ever stop his nonsense?

Here's the latest - . Please note that this is in spite of you putting the "Do not use as a forum"' notice on the talk page. Sarvagnya 18:27, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

I have just responded Tipu in civilised manner. And Sarvagnya stop callinf me names everywhere.mahawiki 04:05, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

Another troll

Please see another troll posting crap against Maharashtrians at ]mahawiki 05:31, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

  • One more. Note that here he asks me to stop BITCHING AND BADMOUTHING. His grouse seems to be that I had referred to him as a troll and as a bluff here and here.
  • Trolling:Now WP:TROLL defines a troll to include, The archetypal troll is the deliberately inflammatory post — saying something controversial specifically to cause a flame war. Now if "....I do know about totures of Karnataka government against linguistic minorities like Marathi,Urdu or Tamil, but plz...." is NOT an inflammatory post, tell me what is. It is surely an inflammatory post and frivolous as it may be, it surely qualifies as trolling

Then what is calling Chhatrapati Shivaji as 'Chatripati Shivaji' and terming it as COOOL? Plz look for Sarvagnya's post there

  • Bluffing: I can give any number of cases of his bluffing. He is going all around Misplaced Pages slandering myself and DineshKannambadi saying that we have Kannadised articles on Misplaced Pages. It is just all over the place. His every second edit summary has the phrase Kannadi vandalism. And the articles he has repeatedly pointed out as being victims of Kannadisation and/or vandalism by me are Kannada, Rajkumar, Rashtrakuta, Chalukya, Kaveri etc.,.

Yes.U r kannadising every article possible. Why did u delete ur fabulous Kaveri dispute article where u had ranted how TN has oppressed Karnataka etc etc.Why does Rajkumar article lots of adjectives and POV.Why didnt u include that his mother-tongue is Telgu?Have u seen talk page of Vijayanagara_empire?Ur buddy Dinesh is being accused of pushing Kannadi POV there also. This is what I mean Kannadisation. Also perhaps u remember how u failed to push ur Kannadi POV in Belgaon article???

  • Now this is my challenge to everybody on Misplaced Pages. If anybody find any instance of me making an inappropriate edit on any of those articles, please point it out OR ELSE i request the admin to come down with a heavy hand on mahawiki.

Firstly it u who needs to be blocked.Dont u have another work except bitching against me.Stop it t once.Plz dont think that I shall tolerate ur tantrums without any reason.Didnt u push ur POV at Belgaon article ,u have remved Kaveri_dispute article WHY?.mahawiki 05:31, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

Sarvagnya's And Other Anti-Marathi Users

BInguyen, I after you warned me, I have been extremely civil, but these anti-Marathi Kannadis are just trying to trouble us. When I started improvement on Marathi people, this Sarvagnya comes from nowhere and starts putting "fact tags" on the article. Even after I cite the references he agin reverts the whole thing back. And now he goes on whining against mahawiki.

Apart from Sarvagnya, some users are again putting anti-Marathi rants on Marathi-related talk pages. See this diff. This is very uncivil. And then I get angry. This must be stopped.

Sarvagnya needs help

Sarvagnya didnt want Marathi_people article to be included in DYK.He was badly defeated at Belgaon article where he tried to push his Kannadi POV and remove Marathi transliteration.I REQUEST u to plz go thru Belgaum:Talk] and see how sarvagnya was creating havoc unnecessarily and ignoring my citations.Even when user Aksi_great and admin Nicalp pronounced and accepted my citations this user was crying foul.U must have seen from few days this guy is continuously trying to woo to block me.What would I call it?Why is he so behind me?Why he doesnt want Hindi transliterations at Vande_mataram and Jana_gana_mana, Tamil transliteration at Kaveri and Marathi transliterations at Belgaon. He is a kannadi fanatic opressing everyone here.I will not deny my mistakes I have done befor.Plz ask user:Aksi_great and user:Amerique which he claims to 'fed up' by me.I have followed EACH and EVERY advice which they gave.Since these ppl have asked me to edit anything with proper citations I am doing it.User sarvagnya is editing out Kaveri or Belgaon with no valid reasons. All he can do is rant against me.He is wasting everyone's time here.He wants to impress u to get me blocked and infact he is making other users to write on ur user page against me.sarvagnya had pleaded Bakaman and Haphar for that.Pl see their talk pages if u dont belive me.Ask this Sarvagnya to stop his childish behaviour.I think he suffers from acute inferiority complex. He is behind me since he failed to remove Marathi transliteration from Belgaon article after which he did a disappearing act only to come back cry foul.Ask him not to take it personally and BEHAVE properly. mahawiki 05:42, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
