Turkish Armed Forces Medal of Honor

(Türk Silahlı Kuvvetleri Şeref Madalyası)

This is the Highest Medal that can be awarded to an individual by the Republic of Turkey and can be awarded and authorized only by the President of Turkey.

The Medal is recommended by the four top Generals of the Genelkurmay Başkanlığı (Turkish Armed Forces).

General

Five large and five small gold stars on dark blue background circling an insignia of a crescent moon and a star on red background, the symbol of the Turkish flag, pointing upwards.

Made of eight pieces

Criteria

During war time or special war zone combat operations or war-like operations, this Highest Medal of the Republic of Turkey is awarded to individuals who have great honor and who have participated with extreme bravery and heroism in operations that have placed their lives voluntarily at great risk for the Republic of Turkey and other individual lives, making sure of success during all operations and missions, above and beyond the call of duty.

They must have contributed greatly to the Republic of Turkey when the country was in danger, and whether this danger was known by the general public or not, and whether in open war missions or secret missions. This medal is recommended by the four top Generals of the Genelkurmay Başkanlığı and approved by the President of Turkey before it can be awarded officially.
