Literotica is one of the most popular erotic text sites in existence, with nearly 25,000 registered authors (as of late 2005) contributing about 100,000 stories, poems, essays, illustrated stories and audio stories in a huge variety of categories. Though Literotica is primarily an internet website holding hundreds of thousands of stories, there is a ferocious community behind the site, located on its message board. Long live free speech.

Literotica's message boards are lesser known than the stories, but still extremely active nonethelss. Inside the message boards are many different forums from which users can choose one or all forums to frequent.

  • The Amateur Pictures forum is always popular, as is the General Board, the only unmoderated section of Literotica, solely devoted to free speech. The Author's Hangout, Role Playing and, Sexual Role Playing forums are also usually on a visitor's must-see list.
  • The BDSM and GLBT communities are represented in the forums as well, along with a How-To forum and even a place for writers to seek advice with erotic stories.
  • Literotica is a community, with many members, both erotica writers and fans.
  • Popular with the 'Litizens' or 'Litsters' are 'Litogethers' (most likely a shortened form for Literotica Get-Togethers), when members of the message boards will join together in one place for a night or two of fun and getting to know one another better.
