Reader (1836 - 1914) was a diarist and artist who wrote about his experiences living in Kansas including during the Bleeding Kansas and American Civil War eras. He also made drawings and paintings. He was born in Pennsylvania in 1836 and settled on a farm near Indianola, Kansas in 1855. His journal includes accounts related to several Civil War battles.
