LostBot

Your bot has been approved for trial. Please take a look at that page to make sure you have the most up-to-date instructions and comments. When the trial is completed, post your results to that page so the bot can potentially be approved. -- RM 04:45, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

I have setup the categories that need to be worked on at the automation department page. Pick any of the categories and mark that you are working on it. Choose a category that does not have a workgroup assigned to it. Read through Generic WikiProject templates on how to setup the plug-in. Remember to uncheck the "Skip non-existing pages" pages on AWB before you start. Let me know if you have any questions. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 06:27, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
Setting up the article list on AWB: If you were thinking of using, "Append to Talk", that will not work. Load the list with a category. Right click on the list, and select "Switch to Talk". This will change all article name into their talk pages. Then setup the plug-in settings and start. - Ganeshk (talk) 06:30, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

LostBot

Hi Lost, I checked the bot's contributions. It's looking good. Did you set "auto" checkbox, the plug-in will automatically add "class=stub" when applicable. Also mention that the project uses class and importance. -- Ganeshk (talk) 20:04, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Your bot is approved for automatic use. Goto More options tab, in the Auto mode section, check "Auto save" and select "Delay", 5 secs. That should set the AWB running by itself. Let me know if you have problems. -- Ganeshk (talk) 04:01, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
Yes that is what it is supposed to do. Basically it letting the human decide whether it is a stub or not. If some one gets around to that talk page, they can decide whether the article is a stub or not. If it is stub, remove the auto=yes and let it be. If it is not a stub, the human will remove the auto=yes parameter and give it a new higher class. Hope that explains. -- Ganeshk (talk) 06:36, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thanks for the barnstar. It's your initiative that got you here. Keep up the good work. Hope to see you back to active editing soon. I have completed many of the categories listed at the automation page. We should re-run them every month for adding newly created articles. And we should find more categories to add to that list. They are currently listing only stub-cats. -- Ganeshk (talk) 17:56, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

DYK barnstar

Thanks for the barnstar... it is very pleasing for me to be able to contribute in whatever insignificant way to the wikipedia project. I hope to be able to provide many more DYKs on India-related content. Since, I am still a new user, if I make any mistakes please guide me and chide me so that I can correct myself. With humility and respect. --Antorjal 23:48, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks

Hello bheed me khoye hue! Thanks for the message. I now look forward to your RfA. Do contact me when you need any help. - Aksi_great (talk) 11:26, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

thanks!

When I started my second editor review, I had no idea how greatly helpful it would be to me. Here are people from across the world who I've never met or laid eyes upon, taking their personal time to think about me and offer me valuable criticism and advice. And the stuff I've learnt is more helpful in real life than just on Misplaced Pages. This is an experiment I will never forget. I thank you most sincerely for your kindness, for helping me be a better person. I am very much in your debt. Rama's arrow 15:47, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Re:Advise please

I have no idea what happening on your screen. Let me write the steps I follow.

  1. File - Login
  2. Load the category in
  3. Right click the list of articles and select "convert to talk pages"
  4. Click Filter
  5. In the special filter box, right click near the namespaces section and select "deselect all"
  6. Check Talk and click apply
  7. I have copied the xml file that I use to User:Ganeshk/banner. Please copy that to your machine as banner.xml under Settings folder.
  8. File - Load settings and select banner.xml
  9. Check Auto-save
  10. Click the "Start the process" button.

I have ask Kingboyk about how the stub process works. In some cases, the plug-in added a Stub-class and did not add auto=yes. Right now just continue with how you are doing.

Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 05:29, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

I will send the file to you. But let me suggest this. Click Edit on the banner page. Select all (Ctrl+A) the text. And then copy. If you copy on the browser the page, it won't work. You have to get to the edit window. Let me know if this works. -- Ganeshk (talk) 14:19, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks

Thank you for the barnstar. The Silent Contributor 16:34, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thank you so much for removing the vandalism on my userpage! Heh, you have justified even further that vandalism barnstar I gave you last time ;) -- FaerieInGrey 21:22, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

re:More categories

Yes. Please add more categories to that list. I am waiting for full support for workgroups before we work on geography related stubs. Meanwhile we should continue to find other stub categories and main catagories to tag. Please do update the automation page with cats you are working on. -- Ganeshk (talk) 14:35, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Don't forget to read my message two sections up about banner.xml. -- Ganeshk (talk) 14:36, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
The alternate names is not needed in our case. We started with {{WP India}} and sticked with it. Some projects have moved the banners to other pages. It would be useful for them. No articles should link to the child-project templates. I have discouraged the use of them. I will delete them to make sure no-one uses them. For the signature to show up, go back in the history to a version of page that had pending jobs on them, and copy paste the row into the current ersion. The table needs the row to be formatted a particular way. -- Ganeshk (talk) 15:53, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Discussion on caste

Your input would be aoppreciated on whether lists or cats should be used for caste lists on the Indian Noticeboard. Bakaman Bakatalk 01:28, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Sub-cats in AWB

I asked the same question to Betacommand. He responded in greek/latin. :) May you can figure this out. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 03:01, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Okay I followed what he meant to an extent. I did this:

  1. Load the main cat
  2. Filter so that only sub-cats are listed
  3. Right click on the list and Save list to file
  4. Convert the list from #] to Foo|
  5. Convert all the cats to one long string Foo1|Foo2|Foo3|Foo4 etc
  6. Take this string and put in the Category box in AWB and set Make from Category
  7. And click Makelist.

The above still would recurse the sub-cats. It helps to get to one-level down. And he does these steps many times until there are no cats left. I don't understand how we can keep track of cats that have been processed. That's how much I could understand. -- Ganeshk (talk) 03:20, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

That goes one level too. Right? -- Ganeshk (talk) 03:45, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
It is a great function. Many good AWB functions are hidden in right clicks. I hardly right click. :) You could go multiple levels. Sort alpha. Select categories and make list. Once again, sort alpha, select all categories and right click to make list. Do this until you don't find any breaks (white spaces) in the category selection. The white space would mean a new category was added to the list. -- Ganeshk (talk) 03:51, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Proposing a change in WikiProject India

Hi,

I'm proposing a major change related to WikiProject India. I'm trying to build a consensus. Your suggestions/views/ideas are very much valued. Please talk about it here. Cheers. -- Chez 06:02, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Auto-stub

You need to know this. Use auto-stub check box only when running stub categories. -- Ganeshk (talk) 19:14, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

I log-in as the bot in IE, and as the user in Firefox. This way I stay logged in at both places. -- Ganeshk (talk) 19:18, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
