Chemtrails Over the Country Club is the upcoming seventh studio album by American singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey. It is currently set to be released on March 19, 2021 by Interscope Records and Polydor Records. The album was scheduled for release on September 5, 2020 but was postponed until the first quarter of 2021 because of production delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Background
On August 30, 2019, the release day of her sixth studio album Norman Fucking Rockwell!, Del Rey announced that she had already begun work on her follow-up album, revealing the title to be White Hot Forever.
On May 25, 2020, she posted a series of videos in which she announced the new title of the album to be Chemtrails over the Country Club.
On September 1, 2020, Del Rey took to Instagram to post a video of her on set filming the visual for the album's title track, while also revealing another song, "Let Me Love You Like a Woman", which was released on October 16, 2020, preceding the album. She further stated that the album would be released "soon."
On October 3, 2020, it was revealed that Chemtrails over the Country Club was delayed due to vinyl production issues and uncertainty of the song "Dealer" being included on the album,. With the tracklist reveal on January 10, it was confirmed that it was removed from the album.
Del Rey had her first television performance in 9 years on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. She presented a pre-recorded performance of her single "Let Me Love You Like A Woman", which was released almost two months prior to the performance. A few days later, she performed "Silent Night" alongside "Let Me Love You Like A Woman" at the Ally Coalition's annual Twitch talent show.
The eighth track on the album, "Yosemite" was originally intended to be a part of Del Rey's fifth studio album, Lust for Life; however in a 2017 interview with Zane Lowe, Del Rey stated the track was excluded from the record because, "the song was too happy; we're not there yet."
Release and promotion
On December 22, 2020, Del Rey released a teaser video of the title track. At the end of the video, it was revealed that the single and the pre-order for the album would be coming on January 11, 2021.
On January 10, 2021, before the title track release, Del Rey posted the cover art and tracklist for the album. She also left an Instagram comment elaborating on the cover art and preemptively responding to criticism about the diversity of the group of people it depicts. On January 11, HMV revealed an exclusive edition of the record with alternative album art photographed by Neil Krug.
