Ranibennur is a taluk in the district of Haveri. It is situated about 300 km north west of Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka.
History
Popularly known as the "Gateway to North Karnataka", The name of the city is derived from the term Rani-bennuru, literally meaning Queen's resting place. From the late 17th century onwards, the city was a part of the Regency of Bombay until the independence of India in 1947, when Bombay merged into the Republic of India.
Ranibennur Taluk
Ranibennur is a taluk famous among other things for its rich commodity market. Commodities like cotton yarn, cotton seed, oil seeds, red chilli, betel nut and betel leaf are openly traded on the burgeoning local market.

Wildlife
- The Ranibennur Blackbuck Sanctuary (119 km²) was declared as a sanctuary mainly to protect blackbucks. It comprises of two unconnected portions, an eastern and a western bit. The sanctuary has a core zone of 14.87 km² and a buffer-cum tourism zone of 104.13 km². The area is covered mainly by scrub forest and Eucalyptus plantations, and is also inhabited by the highly endangered Great Indian Bustard and the wolf. However, the Great Indian Bustard has not been sighted in the sanctury since around 2002 and may be locally extinct. Blackbuck are pleantiful with a count of more than 6000 in the 2005 census. 11:07, 3 January 2007 (UTC)61.95.189.128Agricultural fields surround the sanctuary.One of the most populr animal in the world called "Krishnamruga" is available to see in this Sanctuary only.The best time to visit is between October and March for observing the blackbuck, while the bustard is most easily sighted from February to June.
- The famous temple in Ranibennur is "Basavanna Temple" which is located in Doddapete.Also two old forts are there in Ranibennur that are 150 years of old.
