Neither a charge nor a membership is required for visitors to make full use of the contents of the site. While many of the clips available at this site are either very old corporate advertisements or films made by the government, the archive also contains a number of Popeye cartoons, Three Stooges episodes, and other items of pop culture significance which are in the public domain because their copyright has expired.
The stated goal of the Prelinger Archives is to "collect, preserve, and facilitate access to films of historic significance that haven't been collected elsewhere."
