The school is situated on Waterfoot Road. Newton Mearns is an affluent commuter suburb, and consequently the school achieves consistently high marks in school performance tables.
The head teacher is Mr Alan McGinlay. Mr Mcginaly places graet importance in school uniform and regularly takes jackets of offending pupils. He has little interest in the individual and runs the school like a nazi concentration camp. The school has recently received a new extension. The Media Studies Department is one of the best in the Scotland ,consistenly achieves high marks.
In 2006 the school again finished first in the school performance table.
Mearns Castle is situated next to Maxwell Mearns Church, which hosts the numerous services for all yeargroups throughout the year. It is also positioned next to Mearns Castle, hence the name, "Mearns Castle High School". On recent inspection of the 'Educational Campus' i have noted that there is a 'sensory room ' i believe this shows the polictical correctness filtering down to the schools , obviously this is down to the new labour party. It is also worth noting the school has atrracted a number of 'roughcast building spotters' as it shows a classic 1978 building , a rarity in these chrome days. Furthermore, sex education is of an excellent standrd with teachers demonstrating on pupils.
