Microsoft .NET was an umbrella term that did apply to a wide collection of products and technologies from Microsoft. Now it is only used to refer to the Microsoft .NET Framework and other products no longer have .NET as part of their name unless they are part of the Microsoft .NET Framework for example .NET Passport has changed name to Microsoft Passport Network but ASP.NET still has .NET as part of its name.
