Wolfmother is the first full-length album from the Australian three-piece psychedelic rock band Wolfmother. Often considered the center-piece and quintessential introductory album to the mid-2000's Retro Metal movement, all four tracks previously released on the Wolfmother EP ("Woman", "White Unicorn", "Dimension" and "Apple Tree") have been altered slightly from their original versions, re-recorded and released upon this album.
The cover art for this album is taken from "The Sea Witch" by Frank Frazetta. Other Frazetta work appears as internal album art as well. Due to the original cover displaying nudity, the album is sold in Wal-Mart stores with an alternate cover, simply the Wolfmother logo against a black background.
The album was played on high rotation on Triple J whilst also earning the status of feature album of the week.
In 2005, Wolfmother won both the J Award and the listener's choice Album of the Year. A record six of the tracks made it into the Triple J Hottest 100, 2005.
The record sold 265,000 copies in the US.
The song "Woman" from this album is featured in the video games Guitar Hero II, Tony Hawk's Project 8, Madden NFL 07, and Major League Baseball 2K7. "Woman" was also used in the commercial for the 2006 version of Sonic the Hedgehog for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. In 2007, it won the Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance. It is featured on the intro for the television show Driving Force on A&E. Also, it was featured in a commercial for the CNBC show, Mad Money, featuring Jim Cramer.
