Matthew Alan "Matt" Beat(born: November 6, 1981 ), better known online as Mr. Beat, is an American YouTuber, musician, podcast host and former social studies teacher known for his videos discussing history, geography, economics and politics.

Early Life

Matthew Alan Beat was born in Topeka, Kansas and was raised Catholic. He went to the University of Kansas, University of Nebraska Omaha, and Emporia State University for college.

YouTube

He created his YouTube channel in August 2009, though didn't start uploading anything until January 2011. His oldest videos were originally only intended to show his actual students in his classroom, and the original channel name was "Mr. Beat's Social Studies Channel". Once the videos took off, he expanded his content. He now runs numerous video series such as "Compared", "Supreme Court Briefs", "Presidential Elections In American History", among others. His most popular series is Compared, a geography series which compares two places around the world.

Beat is known as an American Presidential history buff, with songs about all of the former American Presidents and a series chronicling every presidential election in American history. He also occasionally creates historical parody songs and original history songs for his band Electric Needle Room, an indie pop band Beat plays in with occasionally other people. Additionally, Beat runs a second channel, "The Beat Goes On" where he mainly focuses making videos on other topics such as music, films, and cultural trends. He also cohosts the podcast "Jobsolete" with Helen Hong which explores jobs of the past. Mr. Beat has notably shown to be very critical of conservative YouTube channel PragerU and has made videos reprehending it, including a 7 hour livestream. Beat is known for his dry humor and creativity when it comes to jokes and comedy.

Personal Life

He has a wife and two children, and currently lives in Lawrence, Kansas. He was a high school social studies teacher until 2021 when he he decided to pursue a career as a full time YouTuber. Beat is of mostly English, Welsh, Germanic and French descent, along with more distinct Irish, Scottish, Swedish and Norwegian descent. He has a dog named Patsy and a cat named Ellie, who passed away on December 31, 2021, at the age of 18.
