The Church of Satan is a philosophical/cultural organization which draws its name from the Judeo-Christian concept of Satan, and claims that every Man and Woman is their own God (As the Church rejects religion, "Satan" is used as a symbol and metaphor.) It was established in 1966 by Anton Szandor LaVey in the United States. People who practice this belief are called "Satanists"

Since the death of Anton LaVey in 1997, Peter H. Gilmore has been appointed to his current position as High Priest of the Church.
