Anon sock of User:Laxmi Narayan Maharana?
Hello. This draft was just submitted for the second time, following salt of the original. Note that the image was uploaded to Commons by another glocked sock of same. Wikishovel (talk) 13:32, 16 November 2024 (UTC)
- Wikishovel, thanks, deleted and blocked Jimfbleak - talk to me? 13:44, 16 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi both ( Courtesy ping: Wikishovel), we have Draft:Laxmi Maharana created this morning by another IP from the same 2409:40E2: range, subsequently edited by a new SPA Rtrtyu. The content isn't identical to the most recent deleted one, but similar enough IMO. I was going to block and delete, but thought I'd run it by for 2nd opinion.
- Also, there's an existing (although not very recent) SPI at Misplaced Pages:Sockpuppet investigations/Tinkubhoi/Archive which seems connected. We should probably add these new developments there for completeness? -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 07:07, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
- DoubleGrazing I concur with the delete and block and SPI, happy to leave it in your capable hands Jimfbleak - talk to me? 09:01, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
- Oh dear, many a disaster began in my "capable hands"... -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:33, 22 November 2024 (UTC)

Shall I request you to reply to my emails through email only instead of replying to an email on Misplaced Pages publicly? Maliner (talk) 13:12, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
- Maliner as you wish, otherwise my default is to respond publicly to any Misplaced Pages email unless there is a clear reason for not doing so (sensitivity of the post, copyright, attachments}. I didn't think any of those applied here. Often people alerting me just post here with a noping, but I'm happy to do whatever you prefer Jimfbleak - talk to me? 13:27, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
Mentoring for FAC
Hi, I'm contacting you because I noticed your username is listed at WP:FAM and I am interested in nominating a FAC but have never done so in the past. I'm contacting several people listed as FA mentors so if you are busy that is okay. The article is Neurocysticercosis, a parasitic brain disease. Thanks in advance for your time and consideration! IntentionallyDense 22:01, 24 November 2024 (UTC)
- Intentionally, I'll have a detailed look later. For now, I think, although it looks very good, it's underlinked. Just reading the start, I'd link at least lesions, immune response, hypertension, cognitive impairment, lentil, lectin, ventricle, vaccine and endemic.
- You have duplicated links for central nervous system in the lead, spinal cord and visual acuity in "Other symptoms", Praziquantel in "Prevention" and inflammation in "Outlook"
- Taenia solium is commonly known as the "pork tapeworm", I'd mention that.
- More later Jimfbleak - talk to me? 09:05, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you that's really helpful I'll make those changes! IntentionallyDense 13:43, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
- Side note: hypetension is linked as Intracranial hypertension, I'm not sure I need to link to hypertension but let me know whhat you think. ventricles is linked in the lead as well. IntentionallyDense 13:54, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
- IntentionallyDense, fine, the above are just suggestions anyway. I've been making minor edits to the article too, I think they are uncontroversial, but anything you don't like, feel free to undo. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 14:10, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you I really appreciate the help. IntentionallyDense 15:03, 25 November 2024 (UTC)

IOC 14.2 move requests
Hi Jim, I've been plodding though the changes to the bird taxonomy made in IOC 14.2 released in August. Many of the changes are to align the IOC taxonomy with other main world lists (ie Clements and Birdlife) as part of the Working Group Avian Checklists (WGAC) initiative (now rebranded Avilist). In October 2024 Clements released an updated version with copious notes which are here. IOC 14.2 includes many changes with 102 species added. The island thrush has been split into 17 species, the house wren into 7 and the common cicadabird into 8.
The changes in taxonomy have already all been incorporated into Cornell's "Birds of the World" website (as well as ebird and the Merlin app). Unfortunately although Birdlife/iucn intend to make the changes, they move much more slowly. This initiative is great - having a consistent taxonomy makes it easier to organise the Misplaced Pages pages as well to align with Commons and Wikispecies.
Some of the moves I cannot make myself. Would you do so for me? This first batch are unlikely to be controversial. In each case my move is blocked by a redirect.
- Tongan ground dove => Shy ground dove
- Mackinlay's cuckoo-dove => Spot-breasted cuckoo-dove
- Whistling fruit dove => Whistling dove
- Cape petrel => Pintado petrel
- Rufous grasswren => Pilbara grasswren
- Cameroon greenbul => Cameroon mountain greenbul
- Chatham fernbird => Chatham Islands fernbird
- Houbara bustard => African houbara
- Mountain wheatear => Mountain chat
- Grey-capped greenfinch => Oriental greenfinch
I can come behind you and tidy up the above article after the moves.
Unfortunately, Clements and the IOC continue to disagree on a few English names - such as the use of hyphens. - Aa77zz (talk) 16:58, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- Aa77zz No problem, I'll do it in the morning Jimfbleak - talk to me? 19:48, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- Aa77zz, all done Jimfbleak - talk to me? 09:06, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- Many thanks. I've now rejigged the text in each article. - Aa77zz (talk) 11:20, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
Redpolls
The next move is more complicated. Currently we have the following 4 articles:
- Redpoll - the genus Acanthis
- Arctic redpoll
- Common redpoll
- Lesser redpoll
IOC 14.2 has lumped the Arctic and Lesser into the Common redpoll and changed the name to simply "Redpoll". With the lump the genus Acanthis becomes monotypic and doesn't need its own article.
The IOC 14.2 note:
Treat all of the redpoll taxa as conspecific with the English name "Redpoll" (IOC 14.2) following Chesser et al. (2024) based on genomic homogeneity, continuous phenotypic variation, overlapping habitat, and lack of evidence of prolonged isolation (Mason & Taylor 2015; Funk et al. 2021).
Clements have made the same lump as has the NACC. Birdlife/IUCN already have a single species Redpoll.
If you agree, could you move the "Common redpoll" article to "Redpoll". This will replace the current genus article. I can then list the subspecies in the redpoll article, explain the lump, mention the monotypic genus, and replace the Arctic and Lesser redpoll articles with redirects. So my suggested move is:
Many thanks -Aa77zz (talk) 12:00, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- Aa77zz, done, even though it shrinks my life list... Jimfbleak - talk to me? 12:05, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
