Azerbaijan Airlines Flight 8243 was a scheduled international passenger flight from Baku to Grozny operated by Azerbaijan Airlines which crashed on 25 December 2024 with 110 people on board, according to local sources. Russian news agencies said that the plane had been flying from Baku to Grozny in Russia’s Chechnya, but had been rerouted due to fog in Grozny. The plane was an Embraer 190, and reportedly squawked 7700 on its transponder which signaled an emergency had occured on board, while flying over the Caspian Sea.
Emergency services are currently putting out the fire at the crash site.
