Due to the predominant German background between 1308 and 1945, Danzig refers to the city in this historical context, for example the Free City of Danzig. In German, the city continues today to be known as Danzig, just as in Polish the city was known as Gdańsk even prior to 1945.
Danzig (Danziger, Dantzig) is also the surname of a number of people, including:
- Avraham Danzig (1748–1820), Rabbi, author of Jewish Law works
- Glenn Danzig (born 1955), American musician, songwriter, publisher, and founder of the bands Danzig, The Misfits and Samhain
