"Voyage of the Damned" is an episode of the British science fiction television series Doctor Who. It is scheduled to be broadcast on BBC One at Christmas 2007, and is the third Christmas special of the revived Doctor Who series by Russell T. Davies.

Synopsis

This story is a continuation of the final scene in Last of the Time Lords, where the famous ship Titanic somehow manages to ram its way through the wall and into the console room of the TARDIS. It is implied, therefore, that the story is at least initally set in the mid-Atlantic in 1912, when 1,513 people lost their lives.

• In "Rose", the Doctor described the TARDIS's impregnability by stating that the "assembled hordes of Genghis Khan" would be unable to enter the TARDIS when the doors were closed and that they had tried.

The Titanic and Doctor Who

This episode will mark the first time the Doctor has explicitly been seen involved with the Titanic disaster – indeed, it seems at the cliff-hanger conclusion of Last of the Time Lords that the TARDIS may be the cause! However, the ship has been mentioned a number of times previously.

• In the Fourth Doctor story The Invasion of Time (1978), the Doctor claims that he "wasn't responsible" for the disaster.
• In Rose, Clive, a conspiracy theorist, shows Rose an old photograph of the Ninth Doctor with "the Daniels family of Southampton", on the eve of their scheduled voyage on board the Titanic. For an unspecified reason, they cancelled their trip and so survived the infamous iceberg collision and sinking.
• In the following episode, The End of the World, the Ninth Doctor mentions that he "was on board another ship once. They said that was unsinkable. I ended up clinging to an iceberg, it wasn't half cold."

Pre-broadcast publicity

• Kylie Minogue was reported by several newspapers to be appearing in this episode. While Minogue stated that she would be in the episode, Davies stated that she wouldn't due to other commitments on her part. Russell T Davies was also quoted saying "I haven't even written the script yet, and a woman like (Kylie) would be booked two years in advance."
