William S. Hart High School, also known as "Hart High School", is the oldest high school in the Santa Clarita Valley in California. The school has been educating students in the 9th through 12th grades since 1945. The school's main colors are red and black. Its mascot is the Indian. Its main rivals are the other schools of the William S. Hart High School District, which include Valencia High School, Canyon High School,Saugus High School, Golden Valley, and West Ranch High School.
In 2005, the school celebrated its 60th anniversary.
Academic achievement
The school places much emphasis in academics. Hart currently is leading in academics based on Advanced Placement test scores in the district. According to statistics from the district released in 2005, of the 1,886 students that passed at least one AP test:
- 33% of those passing students were from Hart
- 26% were from Valencia
- 22% were from Saugus
- 19% were from Canyon
In addition, according to Newsweek's Jay Matthews' Challenge Index, which uses AP exams to identify the top high schools in the United States, Hart ranked in the top 2.8% percentile, placing above other well-known high schools in California. In Newsweek's Top 1000 Best High Schools in America for 2003, Hart ranked #790 in the nation. Newsweek's Top 1000 list has Hart ranked #740 for tests taken in 2004. And at the end of the 2005-2006 school year Newsweek's 1000 list ranked Hart #700 reaching higher than any high school in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Hart Music
Hart High School has a nationally-recognized music department consisting of bands and choirs.
Hart Regiment
The Hart Regiment is a marching band headed by band director Anthony Bailey for the last seven years, during which they have won five straight SCSBOA championships (in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006). The Regiment consists of a front percussion ensemble, marching winds, pageantry, and drumline. The Band Director is Anthony H. Bailey and the Pageantry Advisor is Erica Hardbarger.
In August 2006, the winds and drumline recorded original marching band music by composer Rob Walker (ASCAP) for the NBC series Friday Night Lights.
In the Fall Semester of 2007 the Hart Regiment Marching Band will go to the Band of America Grand Nationals. The competition will take place in the RCA Dome in Indianapolis on November 15 through the 17 of 2007.
Spring Instrumental Ensembles
In the spring, the instrumental students separate into different ensemble groups. The Wind Ensemble is the higher of the two full ensembles which students must audition for. Because of the small size of the wind ensemble, the remaining students perform in the Concert Band. Students in percussion may also participate in the indoor drumline group, which performs shows with a front ensemble and a marching drumline. The Jazz Band is an extracurricular activity in the fall, and an audition group in the spring.
In February, 2007, the Wind Ensemble was one of two high school bands in the state of California to perform at the California Band Director's Association's 50th anniversary conference in Fresno, California. Groups were chosen by audition using live recordings of the previous year's musicians.
March 2007 brought the group's second trip to the Bands of America National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana (the other first being in 2003). It performed in Clowes Hall at Butler University on March 16th as part of this event. The following pieces were played:
- Nitro - Frank Ticheli
- The Seasons - Philip Sparke
- Pageant for Band - Vincent Persichetti
- Ave Maria - Franz Biebl
- Turbine - John Mackey
