In retirement.

Blocked

I'm sorry to do this after you've just announced your retirement, but I have blocked you indefinately, as you have clearly made a legal threat by stating that you have contacted animal welfare officials. Until this is retracted, you are not allowed to edit the website. Ryan Postlethwaite 12:45, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Can you please unblock the IP. If you tell me how to change the password I will scramble it. And in what sense can I retract? I am now not allowed to edit here. I am pursuing the whole matter elsewhere, entirely outside WP. Please unblock IP, and delete account. edward (buckner) (talk) 12:49, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
To retract it, you need to make it explicitly clear that you are no longer going to persue legal actions with respect to FT2. I'm not going to tell you how to change your password, as I hope this is a momentary lapse of judgement and you will feel differently about things soon. With regards to your IP, there's no need for it to be unblocked whilst your main account is blocked. Ryan Postlethwaite 12:58, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
I have explained in an email why you shouldn't block the current IP. There is a policy about this which I will try to locate. And in any case, I didn't say I was pursuing legal action, if you read what I said. edward (buckner) (talk) 13:00, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

The reason is given here. http://en.wikipedia.org/WP:IP

- and obviously I withdraw the legal threat, if that was how it was construed. It wasn't, in fact, a threat. edward (buckner) (talk) 13:04, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

When administrators block users for what could be considered misconduct, the software automatically blocks the IP address as well to stop the possibility of the user creating a new account or using their IP address to edit. Whilst you haven't stated that you're about to the phone the police, contacting the animal welfare officials is the first step to legal proceedings, and by doing that, you have put another contributor at risk of external investigation. Ryan Postlethwaite 13:05, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

I've already explained you are in breach of http://en.wikipedia.org/WP:IP. And in any case I have withdrawn the threat. edward (buckner) (talk) 13:07, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

I've got your email and done as requested. Does this mean you no longer plan to persue this off wiki in whatever context? Ryan Postlethwaite 13:10, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
There cannot be a "breach" of WP:IP because it is not a policy nor a guideline. It's not even an essay. — Save_Us_229 13:12, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Ok I no longer plan to pursue in any context. You win. edward (buckner) (talk) 13:14, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Now please unblock. edward (buckner) (talk) 13:15, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

  • The block is good. There is no violation of WP:SIP here. If the block is on good grounds, I see no technical reason to remove it. The autoblocker is designed to prevent block evasion. Mercury 13:47, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
