ifood.tv

I've noticed links to ifood.tv popping up here and there. In most cases, by spot checking, I found the links added by IP users mapping to India. (Look for 122. IPs). I'm not entirely convinced that this is spam ... well ... it's spam, but it's borderline useful content as opposed to merely being a link aggregator or trying to push a commercial product. Maybe I'll be more dogmatic tomorrow, but I thought I would post it here first to see if anyone has a strong opinion one way or the other on removing the links. --B 02:33, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

Let's monitor how it gets used. --Dirk Beetstra 13:00, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
Dirk - did this get monitored? There doesn't seem to be a COIBot report, but a link was added on October 24 2007 (). -- SiobhanHansa 16:18, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure if the two Sikh sites related to each other or if they are associated with the other set of sites. All three sets of domains have been spammed:
This move of cyrena.com and dhangurunanak.com within an article's link list may be what caused the confusion; I think the editor was trying to increase the prominence of sikhzone.net by moving links higher on the list to the bottom.

Time for blacklisting blogspot.com, with whitelisting of specific domains?

The rule \bblogspot\.com is (currently) not on COIBot's monitorlist. Some of the sub-domains have been added via WT:WPSPAM, or have been caught by the automonitoring of COIBot (mainly because the name of the editor is the same as the name of the subdomain on blogspot.com).

Still, a linksearch on the resolved IP of blogspot.com (72.14.207.191) results in a mere 118 results (all COIBot linkreports)! Often the multiple use of the single subdomains is not a cause for blacklisting, as they may only have been used once or twice. Also, I suspect there are tens of thousands of blogspot sub-domains out there, but these are only the links that are caught because the wiki username overlaps with the domainname of the subdomain (or have been reported here). Would this cumulative behaviour warrant blacklisting of \bblogspot\.com .. here, or even on meta? --Dirk Beetstra 12:37, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

And see here as well --Herby 13:07, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Technically a cross-post. Relevant discussion for total blogspot.com monitoring, now this discussion appears in the COIBot linkreports.

As COIBot only picks up the ones reported here, and the ones which get added with an (apparent) conflict of interest, let's monitor them all, as I expect that most are inappropriate. --Dirk Beetstra 10:25, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Public-access television

This may be a bit off-topic here. The last half of the public-access television article is a large directory of external links to various stations. It ends with about a screenfull of what appears to be indiscriminate links. The page "owner" seems to want to protect things as they are (and is a founder of one or more of the stations listed), but I haven't pushed too hard. How do other editors perceive this article with respect to various linking policies? Burlywood 21:10, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

From taking a quick look, that last half of the article seems to clearly fall under WP:NOT#REPOSITORY and WP:NOT#DIRECTORY per official policy. If the individual is connected with the stations then there may be a conflict of interest, and certainly WP:OWN, if there are claims of ownership being made. I think your concerns are quite valid. Seems there is much work to be done to make it more encyclopedic.--Hu12 (talk) 22:45, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
I have followed up on Hu12's tagging, I have removed all external links, mainly per the two cited parts of the WP:NOT policy, I removed all because all seem to fail WP:EL. Any attempt at reversion is a clear policy violation, and deserves a firm (final?) warning. --Dirk Beetstra 22:56, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
A classic Spam Event Horizon--Hu12 (talk) 00:23, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
I notice the article in its present state is unreferenced, and one or two of the deleted links might possibly be useful as references. I'm not sure about the list of stations; if we deleted that, we should at least link to a suitable external source for such a list. DGG (talk) 04:07, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
External links != references. If they are needed, they can be pulled from the article history. There is no need to link directly to the radio/tv stations, or they could e.g. be included in a ] (or a category), where wiki-links to the articles of the radio stations are collected. We are not a directory. --Dirk Beetstra 10:27, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
Why does the wikilink not work? --Dirk Beetstra 10:30, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
Dirk, I am not disagreeing, except that a usable ref can sometimes be found in something originally presented as an external link. DGG (talk) 22:31, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

I am a little confused here, as i can not see any substantial number of articles the accounts listed have tried to spam. DGG (talk) 06:27, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

Juicy spam

Hi, all. If this isn't the right place for this... I'd be happy to take it where it belongs. I have been removing some spam (and leaving some spam that I wasn't sure about) from the external links section of Juicer. Now I have a user with one edit asking me why I deleted his links and left other spammy links in there (on my talk page). Could someone please check out the external links section of Juicer and give me an honest take on the links there? I'm not sure which (if any) are salvageable. If you go through the history, you should see pretty quick what has been going on. Thanks. -- Swerdnaneb 22:02, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

I removed the links and left a note at the talk page of the IP-address. /SvNH 06:47, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for your help. Nice to have a second set of eyes sometimes. -- Swerdnaneb 18:15, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
