Denzel Q. Crocker is Timmy Turner's crazy and fairy godparent-obsessed teacher and a villain in The Fairly OddParents. He is voiced by Carlos Alazraqui. He resembles Monty Burns from The Simpsons, both physically and vocally. He is considered the actual main antagonist in the series, while many believed that Vicky was the main antagonist during the first few seasons .
Reputation
In an episode that dealt with causal loops (The Secret Origin of Denzel Crocker), it is established that early in Crocker's life that he obtained knowledge of the existence of fairy godparents, which cost him professionally when he made public his findings on the matter; however, this is due to a time travel accident on Timmy's part. Crocker's favorite thing to say is, "Soon, I will prove the existence of...FAIRY GODPARENTS!!".
Crocker is a "meanie" who exhibits behavior consistent with megalomania and experiences delusions, as seen in his short fits of shouting "FAIRY GODPARENTS!" while making jerky, extreme twitches. These dramatic physical movements tend to get him injured; for example in No Substitute For Crazy!, he fell out of a window in his classroom and mysteriously into a well. However, he is not technically delusional, because he knows that fairy godparents actually exist, and the torture this knowledge inflicts on him is further aggravated by the fact that he will never be able to prove it. He takes out much of his rage on the students by delighting in their failure, and personally torturing them with their flaws. Crocker lives with his mother, and used to date Geraldine Waxelplax, Timmy's school principal and Crocker's boss, back when they went to college together. "Ms. Waxelplax" is now embarrassed at her former relationship with him.
For reasons unknown, Crocker's ears are located on the back of his neck. This was first commented on by Norm the Genie. Norm said, "That thing on your neck. Is that your ear?" (Note, his ears might not be located on the head as many of the characters in the Fairly Oddparents lack necks due to the art style, so what looks like Crocker's neck may in fact be a part of his head that just looks like a neck). Despite Crocker's looks, Timmy Turner's father is jealous of his "gorgeous" figure.
Profile
Biographical details
Denzel Crocker is a maniacal teacher who gives out a lot of failing grades. Though he has been living with his mother all his life, "The Secret Origin of Denzel Crocker" shows she wasn't caring enough for him, as she often left him with an evil babysitter named Vic. Denzel's only escape from these doldrums was the help of his fairy godparents, Cosmo and Wanda. His life changed for the worst on March 15, 1972, when a boy with a silly pink hat and his fairy godparents dropped in from thirty years later because, apparently, something bad would happen to Denzel that very day. That something occurred when the boy's fairy godfather blew the cover off of Cosmo. Because of this, poor Denzel lost Cosmo and Wanda and all memory of them. Sort of. He was able to write a memo to himself ("Fairy Godparents Exist") on a DNA tracker that the pink-hatted boy had left behind. Not only that, he also manages to snag a sample of Cosmo's hair. This explains how he would later have pictures of what seems to be parts of Cosmo's and Wanda's bodies to display on March 15, 1984. In addition, an overdose of the magical device used to erase memories caused Denzel to develop a hunched back and a pale and frightening look. Another side effect is the townspeople forgetting the good deeds Denzel and his fairies have caused; they form an angry mob that still (though elderly) pursues him to this day.
Before losing his fairies, Crocker used to be a nice kid who even risked his own life to save Timmy's Dad from being ran over by a truck.
Since then, Denzel Crocker has continually attempted to prove to the whole world that fairy godparents exist. In his college years, at Harvard, New Baltimore Community College (the name is derived from that of Butch Hartman's home town), and Dimmsdale University, Crocker did a lot of research on fairy godparents, and on March 15, 1984, twelve years after his worst day occurred, his second-worst day occurred: In what had been advertised throughout the university as "The Big News", he explained his theory on fairy godparents in front of a packed auditorium. The audience includes several important scientists, an Army general and the just-shrunk Chet Ubetcha, only to get nothing but laughter. This same event was also the catalyst for Timmy's parents' first meeting, as the military and scientists decided instead to award their grants to Sheldon Dinkleburg, who promptly dumped Timmy's mother, allowing Timmy's father to pick her up on the rebound. Crocker continued his attempt to prove the existence of fairies into his career as a schoolteacher, which began on March 15, 1988. During this whole time, he went power-insane and made a solemn vow that once he had proved that fairies existed, he would harness their power and take over the world. He highly suspects that one of his students, Timmy Turner, has fairy godparents. Crocker obviously doesn't know that Timmy's fairy godparents were the same ones that he himself had - Cosmo & Wanda. In the TV movie, "Abra-Catastrophe!", Crocker, having taken a bite out of Timmy's Fairyversary Muffin, a supernatural dessert that allowed the consumer to have a rule-free wish, is able to capture Wanda (and later Cosmo), and then take over the world. With the help of some of his other magic gifts, Timmy was able to outwit Crocker by admitting the existence of Cosmo & Wanda, but therefore losing them. Fortunately, while his parents began to beat Crocker to a pulp, Timmy ate the rest of the Muffin and wished for Cosmo & Wanda to be his godparents again. Crocker ended up in a mental institution (temporarily, he's since gone back to teaching), but swore revenge.
Crocker ends up being the star of Fairy World's most popular reality show after Timmy, an unwitting star himself, causes the focus of his fame to be shifted.
Relatives
Crocker's ancestor was the male witch Alden Bitteroot. Crocker also has an Uncle Albert (who resembles him) with an equal obsession with genies (the irony behind this is that the uncle has countless lamps all with genies within, but his constant ranting about genies have caused him to land in a straightjacket, unable to rub any of the lamps).
Jimmy Neutron
Crocker was the main villain in the cross-over story The Jimmy Timmy Power Hour, Crocker took advantage of Timmy's absence (and a recently acquired teleportation device) to get into Fairy World. After making the fairies powerless, he tries to remake Fairy World in his own image, but was ultimately defeated by a two-dimensional Jimmy Neutron. Jimmy turns Crocker back to normal, and Jorgen, who was transformed into a miniature schnauzer, harmfully took away Crocker's memory, causing Crocker to be extremely frightened upon hearing the word 'schnauzer'. In the other two movies, Crocker appears as a minor character.
Genius
In Channel Chasers, Crocker comes out of a mental institution, completely cured, having just invented cold fusion. When Timmy wishes everything back to normal, Crocker became his normal, crazy, self. However it should be noted that he remembers saying something about helping people and still has his cold fusion generator but doesn't remember what that "junk" is.
Alter ego
In the later episode, "The Big Superhero Wish", he became Dr. Crocktopus (an obvious reference to Dr. Octopus, with some Dr. Strange thrown in.) and, along with the Baby Shredder (Vicky) and the Bull-E (Francis), was employed to help the Nega-Chin take over the world (Crocker knew him from the many Crimson Chin comic books he had confiscated). Their plans were foiled, and Crocker was turned back to normal along with Vicky and Francis.
Video games
- Crocker appears as a sub-boss in The Fairly OddParents: Enter the Cleft!
- In Nicktoons Unite!, Professor Finbarr Calamitous recruits Crocker in his team. Crocker uses a suit with magic equipment, the same as in The Jimmy Timmy Power Hour.
Trivia
This article contains a list of miscellaneous information. Please relocate any relevant information into other sections or articles. (August 2007) |
- The worst day of his life (March 15) is a reference to the Ides of March, the day Julius Caesar was assassinated.
- In the Jimmy Timmy Power Hour 2 telemovie, Crocker's birthday was on Friday the 13th.
- Crocker was once a roommate with Stephen Hawking. This fact is revealed when Hawking demonstrates that Timmy was correct about 2 + 2 = 5. Hawking then gives Crocker an "F". Trying to debunk Hawking at the end of the episode, he chases him with a proof that 2 + 2 equaled six, not five.
- He apparently can predict the exact situation involving Cosmo and Wanda in the current episode, down to the last detail even drawing fairies that look like Cosmo and Wanda. For instance, in Information Stupor Highway, when Timmy accidentally "ping'd" open his files, Crocker analyzed: "Most people would assume it's the work of a hacker. But I know SOME child must have wished himself into the Internet with the help of his FAIRY GODPARENTS!!", which of course, is exactly what Timmy did.
- He likes shrimp puffs. This particular detail is not as emphasized in later episodes.
- It should also be noted that Crocker made a cameo appearance in Dream Goat, which aired on Nickelodeon quite a few episodes before Transparents.
- In Nega-Timmy, after Evil Timmy kicked Crocker out of the school, Crocker briefly took a job as a door-to-door salesman whose entire wares consisted of ham. Later on in the episode, Crocker inadvertently crossed paths with Evil Timmy, resulting in Crocker taking a job as a tour guide. In No Substitute for Crazy, after Timmy wishes the substitute teacher to become the regular teacher, Crocker became a traffic guard. In Future Lost, Timmy wishes the world to be like in the sci-fi book he was reading, where robots are employed as teachers, resulting in Crocker being a janitor. This means that, to date, Crocker has had five known jobs so far on the show.
- Despite his recent actions, he is still featured in Cosmo and Wanda's Godchild Hall of Fame, possibly meaning their criteria has no regards to whatever their former godchildren do after losing them.
