"Arkwright's Mobile Store" |
---|
"Arkwright's Mobile Store" is the fifth episode of Open All Hours second season.
Plot
Arkwright (Ronnie Barker) sends poor Granville (David Jason) out on an overloaded delivery bycicle before dawn. He crashes (only a few scratches) and Nurse Gladys Emmanuel (Lynda Baron) gives him first aids while she scolds Arkwright. Arkwright promises Nurse Gladys that he is about to expand the "Arkwright empire".
His idea is the "Arkwright Mobile Store", an old, barely working ice cream van. When he tries to demonstrate the van to Nurse Gladys, it is so badly loaded, and the vehicle so unstable, that the vegetables fall ontop of the driving Granville in an avalanche.
Nevertherless, Arkwright does not give up. He decides to use the van as the "Arkwright Mobile Catering" (even as the van will be permanently parked beside the shop, to save fuel). When Granville starts cooking sausages inside the van, a fire starts. The van is full of smoke and eventually, the van is burned and put for sale.
Notes
Bedford is the van's brand .
The sign at the "Arkwright Mobile Catering" offers teas, snacks and hot dogs.
Quotes
- Granville speaking to Mrs Blewitt (Kathy Staff) as he is fixing the van:
- Granville: I sometimes wonder if there'sany life left in the whole universe. (and after Mrs Blewitt departs without saying a word to him...) and the more I look at you, Mrs Blewitt, the more I'm convinced there isn't.
- Arkwright greeting Mavis (Maggie Ollerenshaw) while she is dubious with her shopping:
- Arkwright: Hello, Mavis. How are you?
- Mavis: I'm not sure, Mr Arkwright.
