Snakes
- All members of the genus Acanthophis: a group of highly venomous Australian elapids.
- Agkistrodon contortrix, a venomous pit viper found in North America.
- Heterodon platirhinos, a non-venomous, North American colubrid, probably also belongs on this list. Wright and Wright (1957) mention "deaf adder" as one of its many common names. This spelling may be incorrect, or it may be a phonetic approximation of a local pronunciation.
