Empire: Total War

You've really done a good job compiling sources for the article in the sandbox. Hopefully I will be able to get on to Total War within a few weeks, I've only got a few more articles to get through FA/GA/FL/related process before I'm free to get going on something fresh. -- Sabre (talk) 16:40, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Need Help

I just recently created an article for the Xbox 360 game RACE Pro that a user immediately nominated for deletion because he/she is not convinced the game exist, despite the fact that I've listd valid sources (the game's offical website) and such. Their reasoning is because the article is too short or whatever (albeit the game hasn't been release yet). Please help. Thanks.Beem2 (talk) 04:05, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the help. Greatly appreciated!!  :)Beem2 (talk) 11:57, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Re: Sherlock

I wasn't aware. I found the incorrectly titled page when I was off to Ritchie's page to create a link. Alientraveller (talk) 11:35, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Out of the frying pan and into the fire :D Erik and Steve did a lot of work on that article and I haven't seen the film myself. There are lots of unused cites on the talk page that are worth implementing. Alientraveller (talk) 11:48, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
Maybe best to remind them when they're not busy. The article is quite decent though. As for the Narnia cast list, sure, I might as well give it a go. Hope you're ok after surgery. :) Alientraveller (talk) 12:13, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
I agree; the Hellboy II article is in decent shape right now, not far off GA. I haven't seen it yet, so I'd have trouble helping to bring it much beyond that, but once I'm done with Changeling, I'll see if I can at least help to incorporate some of those unused cites. All the best, Steve 14:46, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Re: FarCry 2

Not really. I know it's a fairly popular game but I haven't played it yet; I haven't played as many games lately as I normally do. Also, I'm starting to sway more towards Wii games than PC as I usually use a Mac for my computer and so I have to run Windows just for whenever I want to play games, which is a bit cumbersome. Gary King (talk) 14:58, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Nope not really; try asking at WT:VG. Gary King (talk) 16:04, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
I don't think so; it's not a game I like. Gary King (talk) 16:06, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Question

Hey. I was just wondering if you know how (or if it's possible) to create an Xbox-only system platform list? I recently noticed that practically all of the primary consoles have them, with the exception of the original Xbox (http://en.wikipedia.org/Category:Only-platform_software). Thanks.Beem2 (talk) 02:27, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

No problem. I was looking to see if there could be a category made for Xbox-Only titles. As it appears to be the only major system which doesn't have one.Beem2 (talk) 22:49, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

script

Sky, I'm always pleased to hear that another editor is installing the script. Have you opened your monobook page and refreshed the cache according to the instructions at the top of the monobook? If that doesn't work, are you using Firefox? Apparently there are a few problems with it (I use Safari only). If still unsuccessful, please leave a note for User talk:Lightmouse, who's the guru. The guy above on my talk page has done that and appears to have had success after advice from Lightmouse.

Please let me know if the problem isn't soon resolved. Tony (talk) 15:20, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Jada Pinkett Smith

Hey there. The movie may be completed, but there is still no release date. Future films should only be added if it is considered notable to avoid violating the crystal ball policy. I researched the Angelina Jolie article (a Featured Article) when I worked on the Jada Pinkett Smith project. The Jolie article states the same thing when speaking about films that have not been released. The Human Contract is already mentioned in the article. When a release date is announced, please feel free to place it in the table. But I am in the process of fine-tuning the Pinkett Smith article so that it meets the criteria for Good Article status. I understand your reasoning for adding The Human Contract into the table, but I don't want any reason for the article to be denied GA status. I hope you understand.

As far as the Gary Oldman article, I am currently working on a new project. But I love Gary Oldman, so I will take a look at it and see if I can't add it to my To Do list. Ms. Sarita (talk) 07:59, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

I'm just going over the Pinkett Smith article, and trying to make minor changes here and there, so that they may be avoidable when it is assessed. I'm pretty much done, but I saw that you edited a mistake a few minutes ago that I completely missed. So, going over it is obviously needed. Hehe! Thanks for helping out! Oh, and I took a look at the Oldman article and saw that it failed the GA assessment, and nobody did anything about it, even though they were given specific details on how to have the article promoted. It's so close! So I have added it to my To Do list. I should begin work on it shortly. Ms. Sarita (talk) 08:16, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
Well, thank you again for your help. I nominated the article for GA status last night, so keep your fingers crossed! Ms. Sarita (talk) 20:27, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

script

Hi, you may be interested in trying the script at "Recent changes", which at least educates current users through the change wrought and the links in the edit summary. Most editors have probably not heard of MOSNUM or CONTEXT. Biographical articles are a sure bet for linked dates. You may also wish to go through whole categories of topics that are of concern to you.

The two buttons at the bottom are the super-duper ones that delink dates and change month day into the order you've chosen (depends on whether you hit the bottom or second-bottom button). You may wish to read MOSNUM on which format is used for which country-related article. A lot of UK and Australian articles wrongly use US format and need to be changed to international.

The "Delink common terms" function is included in the bottom two buttons; so is the delinking of "year-in-|year" "concealed" links, which causes some editors to complain (but I use it anyway and tell them to revert if they don't like it—concealed links are deprecated at MOSLINK). If you want to delink dates alone, without the other functions, use "Delink dates to ...", the fifth and sixth from the bottom. If you want to format ALL dates (i can't remember whether it delinks as well), which is useful where there are wrongly formatted unlinked dates, use the third and fourth from the bottom.

BTW, I think on both platforms the "tab" key is useful for the convenient, quick operation of the script: two tabs and then "return" saves the diff you're looking at. Experiment.

AutoWikiBrowser

Have you considered becoming a user of Misplaced Pages:AutoWikiBrowser? It is easy to use and will make some of your work much easier. One of the things it is particularly good at is lists. You can use search functions to create a list, then it will run your code on the list. It is much easier than pulling up an article one at a time as you are doing. Furthermore, it will immediately skip an article if there is a null edit or if the article meets a skip criterion that you set. I can help you through it all if you like. Lightmouse (talk) 12:03, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Empire

The rewrite seems to be coming along quite well, I just have to do naval warfare and multiplayer (and reference them) and the gameplay section will be done. Development section will be more awkward, but hopefully the sources you've provided will be adequate for that. However, the faction lists won't be coming back. I opened a discussion on WP:VG, and consensus was pretty clear on the issue: lists of every single faction in a Total War game is not necessary, and goes against WP:NOT#GUIDE, WP:IINFO and WP:VGSCOPE, even if they are based on real-world factions. Consequently, I'm summarising the factions quickly in prose. Can't imagine the fan writers will be happy judging by how these lists have proliferated through the other articles in the series, but they'll just have to put up with it under WP policies. -- Sabre (talk) 19:09, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Heh, it'll be a while until its elligible for GA or FA, convention is that unreleased games can't be GA or FA (unless Creative Assembly decides it wants to turn the game into vapourware). Got to say its rather nice to be able to legitimately write an article in British English for a change. As Creative Assembly is a British developer, WP:ENVAR allows for British English to take precendence over American English. -- Sabre (talk) 19:29, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
Aye, the hype's to appeal to the American market. According to PC Gamer, previous Total War titles haven't sold too well in the US. Explains having the US as a faction, the storymode campaign seemingly based more on expansionism and revolution in north America and the US release date before the UK one. As for the modding, I've released several bits for a couple of games (GoldSrc and Source engine based ones), but not for the Total War series. -- Sabre (talk) 21:56, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
I'm sort of studying the wrong stuff to try to get into the industry: I'm reading history at university, which isn't much use for computer programming and other computer related things. My modding's just a hobby. -- Sabre (talk) 15:36, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

Anderson Luís de Abreu Oliveira

Please try to maintain a level of consistency in the date format used in that article. The majority of the dates are in the international format (DD MMM YYYY), so they should all be in that format. – PeeJay 11:56, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Yes, that is a good point. However, since the article already uses the international format (which is not just for Britain and Australia, btw) you should not force the {{birth date and age}} template to put the month first. Finally, I do not believe it is inappropriate for the player's birth date to be linked in the lead. – PeeJay 12:12, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Universal Soldier

There doesn't appear to be any indication that this film will actually be out next year: it's a hollow citation, so I recommend prodding it. Alientraveller (talk) 11:56, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Will look into this overlinking now

Thanks; you may be interested to know that there's been an attempt to except infoboxes from the guideline against the linking of trivial terms, at CONTEXT. I'll leave messages with PC78 now. Londo056 has been making attacks on this guideline at CONTEXT, in an apparently coordinated action. Tony (talk) 11:26, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

We may be able to resolve this with a compromise wording that allows what would otherwise be a trivial overlinking for the sake of neatness on the same line or in the same batch of information in an infobox (the wording needs to be refined). Would you be agreeable to this?
It still doesn't resolve both your and Londo's violation of 3RRR ... ahem? Best to have the high-ground? Tony (talk) 11:58, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

3RR

I have reported you for a clear violation of 3RR at Amber Tamblyn. I appreciate that this also concerns recent changes to WP:OVERLINK, but whether you are right or wrong is not the issue; edit warring is not acceptable or constructive. PC78 (talk) 11:57, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Change of Title

Dear SkyWalker, it is not my purpose, to insult you but I wanted to make your text better. You write Witch-king and not Witch King. I have tried to change the title in a normal way but that didn’t worked. So I used another way. Tim Auke Kools (talk) 14:22, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Don’t you see? There is no "–" between Witch and king and you don’t have to write the K with a capital. Tim Auke Kools (talk) 17:18, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

3RR Stern Warning

You have broken WP:3RR at Amber Tamblyn. Don't do this, its a Really Bad Idea and if you are unwise enough to do it again you'll get blocked for it. No, it doesn't matter if you're right William M. Connolley (talk) 19:01, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Football player articles

I saw that you de-linked the dates in football player articles and changed them to the American format, even when they were already in British English format. According to Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football/Archive_25#dates_and_dating_in_articles. this should not be done. --Jaellee (talk) 20:55, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

But why should American format be used if a player is for example from Germany where dates with "month first" are never used? I don't know how it is Spain or Brazil or other countries but maybe you should check that before changing the date format. --Jaellee (talk) 16:55, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Games Convention

Can you move the article from GamesCom back to Games Convention. That are two diffrent fairs. (look at the discussion page) Thanks 141.63.56.202 (talk) 18:47, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Empire: Total War

Could you do me a favour and help integrate the references for the gameplay section at User:S@bre/Empire: Total War? I've finished writing the prose, and have referenced the development and most of the warfare section, but due to the fact I've also just finished a university essay I'm rather brain dead and haven't got any energy left to go through the sources on the talk page to reference the campaign section. I'd greatly appreciate it if you could do that for me, as then I can move the article out into mainspace. -- Sabre (talk) 16:54, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Of course, I want to get the article to GA at least, which means the game's got to be released. -- Sabre (talk) 18:58, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Universe at War: Earth Assault

As much as I hate to be a bother, we'd get better results if you gave me a hand instead of removing things out of hand and telling me to try again. Especially since you've worked on the article and on its reception, showing that you've more knowledgeable about the game than me. --Kizor 23:35, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Brendan Fraser

Okay, here's the issue. The Misplaced Pages article may say that his character is a "refugee from the Village People", but it does not give his character's name. The only source given for the quotes about this is the article from the Winnipeg Sun, which is not accessible without purchase, thus making it an invalid source. Until there is a source that his character is named "Village People", your change isn't supported. Meanwhile, this and this give the character name as Gung Ho, although at least one site (a fan forum) says differently. If you have a source that confirms that his character's name is Village People, you're going to have to provide one. Wildhartlivie (talk) 19:48, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
