Lt. Col. Shrikant Prasad Purohit is an Indian army officer. A lieutenant-colonel in military intelligence, he burst into national prominence in November 2008 when he was arrested by the Mumbai Anti-terrorism squad because they suspected him of involvement in terrorist attacks across Western India. He is also a suspect in 2007 Samjhauta Express bombings

Purohit is the first serving Indian army officer accused of playing a major role in planning and executing a terror blast. In November, 2008 he said to Pune's Shivajinagar court that the ATS had threatened to eliminate him during his interrogation in their custody. He is also suspected of having links to militant Islamist Wahhabi groups

It is worth noticeable that the top policemen Hemant Karkare, Ashok Kamte and Vijay Salaskar, who were killed within 15 minutes of the terror attack, were investigating Lt. Col. Purohit for involvement in the Samjhota Express blast, Makkah Masjid, Malegaon blasts and Ahmedabad blasts. These three police officers were on the hit list of extremist and hindu terrorist parties like RSS, VHP and Barjang Dal.
