Welcome!
I hope you like this place — I sure do — and want to stay. Before getting too in-depth, please read about the simplified ruleset. If you need help on how to title new articles check out the naming conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the manual of style. If you need help look at Misplaced Pages:Help and the FAQ , plus if you can't find your answer there, check the Village Pump (for Misplaced Pages related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions)! There's still more help at the Tutorial and Policy Library. Plus, don't forget to visit the Community Portal. And if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my user talk page.
Additional tips

Homer Football
How can you say that about Homer Football. We are the Section 3 champions in New York state so we are definatley one of the ten best football teams for a class b sized school. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.226.145.68 (talk • contribs)
- Dear User:72.226.145.68 (a.k.a. User:Jeremie03). You are vandalising. An article for Homer Football is seen as non-notable, and removing the AfD tags is seen as even worse vandalism (especially 4 times). Vandalising the AfD page itself, is also vandalism. Please refer to What Misplaced Pages is not especially the section on Misplaced Pages is not an indiscriminate collection of information. Your article on Shady containing "===Person living in Homer, New York.===" is also spam. The addition of oversized links to your articles, is also seen as spam. If you still feel my actions are incorrect, then please let an Admin know, so they can investigate (and I will then add even more lnks, I've just got tired). Ian 13 21:49, 6 November 2005 (UTC)
televisionfreedom.com
Dear Ian,
I appreciate that you are a keen community Misplaced Pages community member and wish to remove enteries which you think damage the site however be careful to not over police.
I see you have added a an AfD tag to the site televisionfreedom.com
May I please ask why this was done? as this site is currently advertised on the London Underground and does fall under the category 'not notable'.
If you beleive the entry needs expanding this is a different matter.
Regards and keep up the good work. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.153.43.139 (talk • contribs)
- Thank you for your comments. I tagged this article for a community vote of deletion as I feel it is website spam. Also all other parties who have participated in the vote so far have opted delete, which shows the community also feel it should be removed. I respect that you may feel it is worthwhile, but Google dosen't seem to think so, and I am unable to find a link to the website on the first few pages, dispite talk on other sites. I feel it is not notable, and does not have the status to be included within an encyclopedia. The key quote you mentioned was currently advertised on the London Underground; anyone can do that with the relevent resources, but please refer to What WP is not - WP is not a propaganda Machine. And please remember WP is an encyclopedia dispite that all can contribute. Please do not hesitate to contact me. Dear Ian,
Thanks for your response. I realise that an encyclopedia does not usually include business names and that this site is not not meant to be a propoganda machine, but then again there seems to be massive inconsistency with regards to this issue.
For example, why is a company like Ryan Air on the site along with hundreds of others? Purely because it is well-known owing to its massive resources and advertising campaigns ( including on the London Underground);-)
The fact that something is not listed on Google is also a matter of financial resources, clever meta-tags, back-linking to other sites etc and does not in and of itself justify an entry.
I am certainly not blaming you for this and I realise your concerns are shared by others, but if you dlete sites like this you would presumambly need to delete virtually every business entry. --81.153.43.139 18:56, 10 November 2005 (UTC)
- I fully understand your viewpoint. In the end it is just what the community feels is relevent, and a site with a good google place and many links is generally considered that. Personally I would view that a expancive website (I am not discrediting yours, however I expect a good 30 pages for a site with full article). POV also needs to be taken into account, and although the article is well writen, it would possibily be more suitated to a section in an article about telecommunication servies. I have been in your position myself, and it is not an easy one. I would consider in a year or six months time returning creating a full article (bit more contentful and insightful), or finding a place in another suitable article (if the current is deleted). I myself only act to highlight possible articles to the community, so they can judge. I also see how it is unfair that some articles are kept and others dropped, but I would say there is a level of content expected (esp. for websites) that your article does not quite meet. A more suited title like 'Television Freedom' may seem less like an advertising plot. Please do not take any of the points I have highlighted personally. Ian 13 19:16, 10 November 2005 (UTC)
- Also please consider the huge levels of spam and vandalism WP recieves. It is very hard to consider every case fully before deciding what to do. (Put forth block request, revert any edits, put for speedy delete, AfD ect.) so I try as much as possible to judge correctly, the problem is that everyone sees the world differently too. Dear Ian,
I take your comments on board and I thank you for taking the time to reply in a well-balanced manner. The site is not actually mine, but this is besides the point.
Carry on the polcing but don't get addicted. :-)
Kind Regards, --81.153.43.139 19:27, 10 November 2005 (UTC)
- Thank you for your comments, and sorry that I presumed you were connected with the site. I am already addicted to MOO incase you were wondering. ;) Ian 13 19:53, 10 November 2005 (UTC)
- I also wish to add, a little late, that WP:CORP is good source of what companies are acceptable. It is not an official policy yet, but it outlines the current aspects. Ian 13 18:58, 15 November 2005 (UTC)
Japanese redirects
I have been looking through the information at Misplaced Pages:Redirect and can find no explicit reason to take action with regard to the list of redirects recently created by 219.110.42.74. If you wish to have them removed, you may list the redirects at Misplaced Pages:Redirects for deletion and see how the community views them. As these redirects may be viewed a equivalent to redirecting European city names from the locally used name to the English equivalent (i.e. Firenze → Florence or Wien → Vienna), I am unsure of how such nominations would be received. --Allen3 13:03, 21 November 2005 (UTC)
