Disputed fair use rationale for Image:2001 ed The International Jew by Henry Ford.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:2001 ed The International Jew by Henry Ford.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Misplaced Pages:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Misplaced Pages:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Misplaced Pages policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 21:36, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Please explain what does "there is a concern" mean, and exactly what about this low resolution sourced image is being disputed and where? Thanks. ←Humus sapiens 23:17, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Request for copyright authorization

I intend to use the graphic image labeled "2nd century Rome gold goblet shows Jewish ritual objects.jpg" <http://commons.wikimedia.org/Image:2nd_century_Rome_gold_goblet_shows_Jewish_ritual_objects.jpg> as an illustration for a forthcoming textbook on Judaism to be published commercially by Routledge. Since you are listed as the file's uploader, my editors have recommended "if you are in any doubt you could contact the person who uploaded the image." I am hereby doing so, and would appreciate it if you could confirm, or at least provide background, for the picture's public domain status and permission to reprint.

quoting a blogger

I am aware that blogging being an unregulated force, quotes from a blog do not constitute a validation for a viewpoint or be counted as a source for anything with a factual basis. In this specific case however I am using a remarkable peice of writing, that happens to appear on a blog, to illustrate the ways that the language is and can be used. In that context I do not feel that the fact it is written by a blogger in any way diminishes its validity and the point it makes.

Futhermore the piece that I have tried to use as a quote not only perfectly illustrates the point but it is the fact that it appears on a blog written by a chassidic jew (and we all know that they are a retiring community that do not often make their views plain to outsiders) that makes it all the more relevant! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.66.110.45 (talk) 19:39, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

I need your help again

There is a user who is harassing, name-calling, and is generally being disruptive to many articles. She has been warned on numerous occasions and archives pages before you can reply to her incivility. This has finally gotten out of hand, and I would like to know what to do about this user. To find out the details, please see my talk page. I was willing to ignore her for quite some time and take her abuse. But it has ended up going too far in this case. Can you please help me, or at least show me how to go through the process of reporting users? Thank you very much.--Lan Di (talk) 23:54, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

The arguments made by Lan Di have in some cases been laughed at (not by me) for being pointless and nonsense. The user is incredibly in-civil towards me by engaging in discussions which are solely to attack me such as on User Talk:Angelriver and User Talk:MiB-24. I find the user to be highly disruptive and in my opinion not familiar with the policies and guidelines of Misplaced Pages. The user had pushed me to the limit and I exploded in one go and only once, the user is just as to blame if not more to blame than I am.--Lucy-marie (talk) 00:11, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

I would like to directly quote some of the comments made by Lan Di "All we have to do is attack her credibility". "I can also get my admin friend involved, as he likes me, and will help us out if I ask for it". "I will get my admin friend to slap her down extremely hard". "We really need your guys help in slapping her down again". These comments seem to show a pattern that Lan DI firstly has a disliking for me and secondly is going to make personal attacks and involve administrators to attempt to have me "slapped down". These comments are highly uncivil and do not focus on anything but me as a user.--Lucy-marie (talk) 00:33, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

And what about your comments to Lan Di which included calling him a "petty, ignorant, obsessed fan" as well as being uneducated and narrow minded? Civility works both ways, Lucy. You have a habit of incivility that started with me from my very first day here where you called me an "absolute wally", "stupid" and threatened to have me banned. Angelriver (talk) 00:38, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
That is one individual comment and not a systematic and virtually continuous pattern. Here is not the place for Angelriver and I to discuss our differences that is for one of our individual talk pages.--Lucy-marie (talk) 00:48, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
I agree, Lucy. This is for our talk pages. Unfortunately though, you archive yours before rebuttals can be made. Angelriver (talk) 00:50, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

My Rfa

Well, not this time anyway it seems...my effort to regain my adminship was unsuccessful, but your support was still very much appreciated. Let me know if there is anything I can do for you. Thank you!--MONGO 07:16, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Palestinian POV pushing

Recently, a new User Coda Stage (talk · contribs) created a number of controversial articles and categories that are profoundly POV. Some attention and input, as well as some discussion, would be welcome regarding: Zionist hunter (Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Zionist hunter); Category:The Nakba (deletion discussion); Category:Israeli war crimes (deletion discussion); and his creation of Daniel Machover and contributions to Doron Almog; Sabra and Shatila massacre‎ and Qibya massacre‎. Thank you, IZAK (talk) 07:22, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Pro-israeli and Pro-zionist POV pushing?

You know i find extremely funny to read above such a cry for help on this topic here, while i was on the way to ask Humus sapiens why he used wikipedia as his tool for pushing what is looking like his pro-israeli and pro-zionist agenda (time to precise that i am neither an anti-israeli nor an anti-zionist)... I reviewed some of his articles creations ( http://en.wikipedia.org/User:Humus_sapiens/contribs ) before coming to this conclusion, by just having a look on how he reword sentences or piece of facts to reflect his POV in its initial edits, his purpose looks more than clear for anybody objective. Quoting dubious sources like palestinefacts.org from the Zionist Organization of America as if their were credible ones, while giving biased or distorted meanings to the actions or declarations of the other side of his POV, i.e. Palestinians if anybody more...

A random example: "In December 2004, he insisted that the Palestinian goal is Israel's destruction in interview to Iran's Al-Aram television station: "At this stage there will be two states. Many years from now, there will be only one... 300 million Arabs, while Israel has only the sea behind it." Khaddoumi said his platform was endorsed by the PLO in 1974. ()" cf. http://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=Farouk_Kaddoumi&diff=8987385&oldid=7480722

Now can you explain us how the quoted declaration -from a dubious source to say the least- of that guy Khaddoumi can be translated in your words into "he insisted that the Palestinian goal is Israel's destruction", all this while you are wearing your "Countering Systemic Bias" banner (sic) and are a Misplaced Pages administrator? ROFL. Poor Misplaced Pages, you used to be more than decent before being hijacked by people with an agenda and far too much spare time to propagate their biased POV... "Encyclopedic content must be verifiable", right. (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 23:43, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

I happened to spot this whilse looking for another comment I left on your page almost a year ago (guess I'll check the page history to find it!) Anyway this comment looks like POV pushing. It attempts to discredit the source rather than exmaine the information (and MEMRI reference now is at least solid evidence the statements were made). That is means "he insisted that the Palestinian goal is Israel's destruction" is also clear. Looking at the account where this accusation came from, it has very few edits very spaced out. I'm not making an accusation, but I'd urge you to examine the users contribution and to draw your own conclusions if you haven't done so already. Sigh. Oboler (talk) 19:50, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Urgent admin intervention needed at the Hummus article

Hi Humus: My attention was drawn to the Talk:Hummus page, a dispute over your name-sake it seems, see Talk:Hummus#Hebrew/jewish/Israeli references and Talk:Hummus#RfC where some users are deploying the worst kind of blatant antisemitic and Anti-Zionist vitriol in violation of WP:HATE and WP:CIVIL, over a minor food article, yet, unbelievable. There are comments there that should be deleted on sight as well. Please check out that page and the violating editors. Thank you, IZAK (talk) 11:11, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

A note

Just a note that the criticism section of Palestine Children's Relief Fund has been removed again. You may want to improve the references if you have time. Steinberg's Religiosity

Here is a new reference about Isaac Steinberg's Orthodox observance during his service in the early Lenin's government:

http://books.google.com/books?id=S0Ls8Z-Y89cC

(Read pp. 126-128, available in the Google preview)

It's a well known fact among the Yiddishist circles (to which I happen to belong). Steinberg's family, the former secretary of his New York office, and a number of other people can verify this information. Even the Russian poet Bunin mentioned in his memoirs "Окаянные дни" that Steinberg was religiously observant. Please don't delete my notion about Steinberg's Orthodoxy (or add it youself). The religious aspect of Steinberg's personality plays a significant role in his anti-Marxist version of socialism, close to Martin Buber's and Gustav Landauer's mystical anarchism. I believe, this fact is worth mentioning. Laplandian (talk) 14:45, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Ben-yehuda.jpg

Thank you for uploading Image:Ben-yehuda.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Misplaced Pages:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Misplaced Pages:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Misplaced Pages policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 23:30, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Ben-yehuda.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Ben-yehuda.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Misplaced Pages under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Misplaced Pages (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 06:18, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Palestinophilia

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Palestinophilia, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Misplaced Pages is not" and Misplaced Pages's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Palestinophilia. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Misplaced Pages's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please don't place this at the very top of articles as you did with Persecution of early Christians in the Roman Empire. It is used in cases where what follows is a summary of the linked article, not a subarticle of it. Cheers. There is no template for the purpose you intended, because a good lead section should make the relationship clear (in this case the lead should link to persecution of Christians, as well as other parent topics, like religion in the Roman Empire (well, that one doesn't exist, but you get the idea). Jew GA Sweeps Review: On Hold

As part of the WikiProject Good Articles, we're doing sweeps to go over all of the current GAs and see if they still meet the GA criteria and I'm specifically going over all of the "Culture and Society" articles. I have reviewed Jew and believe the article currently meets the majority of the criteria and should remain listed as a Good article. In reviewing the article, I have found there are multiple issues that need to be addressed, and I'll leave the article on hold for seven days for them to be fixed. I have left this message on your talk page since you have significantly edited the article (based on using this article history tool). Please consider helping address the several points that I listed on the talk page of the article, which shouldn't take too long to fix with the assistance of multiple editors. I have also left messages on the talk pages for other editors and related WikiProjects to spread the workload around some. If you have any questions, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. --Nehrams2020 (talk) 07:11, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

To Do

  • One new Judaism-related article was created this month, the long requested Hebrew Punctuation. Thanks to Epson291 for creating it. Remember, folks, there are over forty standing requests for Judaism articles, so whenever you get the opportunity make sure to go create a few.
  • In the right column you will see a listing of our most popular articles. All of these articles got 170,000+ page hits in the past month, and they should be on everyone's watchlist so we can keep them vandalism-free.
  • Spread the word! No, not the Word... (well, you can do that too) I'm talking about inviting knowledgeable users to join the project. You can proclaim your undying love of WikiProject Judaism in methods mild to wild, check the project template page and member list for examples. We also now have a flashy advertisement, to use it add {{Misplaced Pages ads|ad=148}} to your userpage.

Now with 200% more Jewishness!
Yes, folks, we're moving on up. This newsletter is now the newsletter for both WikiProject Judaism, WikiProject Jewish History, and WikiProject Kabbalah. In the future, I may split them, but for now I think we'll be just fine with one. As always, any questions or comments should be directed to me, L'Aquatique.

A Special Dispatch
Just a note, not aimed at anyone in particular. By order of the administrative cabal, it is officially not cool (and possibly dickish) to call someone an anti-semite when they aren't being anti-semitic. Anti-semitic is a very charged word, and it's important only to use it when you're absolutely sure it applies, lest it become the subject of a Godwin-esque law. Remember Hanlon's Razor: never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.
In the News

  • A new class on the importance scale has been added- C Class- which covers articles better than start but not quite to B Class yet. It is up to the WikiProjects to decide whether to adopt them or not. Currently, there has been little discussion within our Projects, so if you feel strongly either way be sure to note so at your Project.
  • There is a proposal to reword the section on NPOV regarding religious articles. Please see Wikipedia_talk:NPOV#Religion section - Disputes between historians or scientists and religious_views to weigh in.
  • Thanks largely to the efforts of Xyz7890, a new navbox has come into being featuring Halakha topics. See: Template talk:Halakha to join in the conversation about how it can best be improved.

To Do

  • The Simple English Misplaced Pages is beginning a project of creating and improving articles related to religion, including Judaism. At the present time, volunteers are needed to propose our most important subjects for articles to be created. The official working list is here and a more extended list is here. If you are unsure of proper topics, you might try checking our lists of top importance level articles: Judaism and Jewish History. (WikiProject Kabbalah currently doesn't have such a list)
  • WikiProject Christianity is considering running a monthly drive wherein two or three top importance articles from English Misplaced Pages are simplified and moved over to S.E. They have extended an offer to work with us in creating a similar project for Judaism related articles. For questions or volunteer opportunities, please contact User:John Carter.
  • WikiProject Kabbalah is in dire need of an article rating system for quality and importance. If you are familiar with that system and have some time on your hands, please create one. It could also use some infoboxes...

"Censorship" of names of G-d
There is an interesting discussion currently taking place regarding whether or not it is acceptable to censor (i.e. G-d, HaShem->YodHey) names of G-d in articles to protect Jews who may be reading or editing the article. You can weigh in here: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Judaism#Yahweh.

The Jewish Barnstar

The New Jewish Barnstar
  • There is a collaboration drive to get Holocaust in Lithuania to good article status. For information about how you can help, see the talk page or contact User:Piotrus.
  • WikiProject Kabbalah's only Featured and Good articles have been removed from the WikiProject, on the grounds that neither article (Diane Keaton and David Beckham, respectively) actually mention the subject's affiliation with Kabbalah. If you have sourced information linking either of these people to Kabbalah, please add it so the articles can be returned to the WikiProject.
  • After a rather heated discussion, there are now two barnstars for use by the Jewish WikiProjects, {{The Jewish Barnstar}} and {{The New Jewish Barnstar}}, and you can choose which one you would like to use.. Remember: barnstars are for rewarding users who are doing good work on the project or on Judaism, Jewish History, or Kabbalah articles, and anyone can give anyone else a barnstar. If you see a user who you thinks deserves a thank you, give them a barnstar!

To Do/Help Requests

  • If you have some spare time on your hands, we could use an article about a Kabbalah scholar named Moshe Idel. According to HG there are quite a few sources easily available, you can contact him if you have questions. Be sure to nominate it for DYK if the finished article is eligible.
  • The folks at Shimon Peres need some assistance from someone familiar with both the Hebrew calendar and language to help them figure out the subject's birthday. If you can help, please see Talk:Shimon_Peres#Birthday.

Fair use rationale for Image:Beria timemag 1101530720 400.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Beria timemag 1101530720 400.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Misplaced Pages constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. AussieLegend (talk) 23:04, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Revert of my redirect of Yitzhak Grossman

Hi,

I found 2 articles about the same person. One article has a subset of the information in the second article, has a number of warnings about quality (and is frankly pretty badly written), and misspells the man's name. I redirected it to the other article.

You reverted the redirect (or at least you left me a message why the redirect was reverted).

Your message stated that maybe my edit summary was not descriptive enough. Here's what I put there: "Duplicate article. Redirected to more complete version (basically a superset of the content here)."

Here's the article that I redirected to: http://en.wikipedia.org/Yitzchak_Dovid_Grossman Here's the article that I redirected: http://en.wikipedia.org/Yitzhak_Grossman

What is the appropriate action? Now we have 2 articles about the same man again. Is that a good situation?

Thanks in advance for your help. --Dfink (talk) 21:56, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Actually, that was me. I'll reply on your (Dfink) talk page. Thingg 22:01, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi, there is a big activism movement tp Free Gilad Shalit and there is plenty of reference. Can you please take a look about creating this article. Thank you, Igor Berger (talk) 19:16, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

I am thinking maybe it would be better to add "Free Gilad Shalit" Web activism movement to the Gilad Shalit article first and go from there. There are sufficient verifiable sources to make the edit. Igor Berger (talk) 22:09, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
