Tourist places/ Education in articles for cities etc

Seems to be a fairly India specific phenomenon of appending a tourist guide in many city articles. Policy says An article on Paris should mention landmarks, such as the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre, but not the telephone number or street address of your favorite hotel or the current price of a café au lait on the Champs-Élysées. Misplaced Pages is not the place to recreate content more suited to entries in hotel or culinary guides, travelogues, and the like. Notable locations may meet the inclusion criteria, but the resulting articles need not include every tourist attraction, restaurant, hotel or venue, etc. Such details may be welcome at Wikitravel, instead. Just wanted to know the opinion of other folks here before I go on removing such content

Similair is the case of education- while I can understand mention about notable institutes- like those with a separate wiki page, is there really a requirement for an often long list of all schools and colleges in each city?

trakesht (talk) 08:57, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

As far as education related list for each city/state is concerned, we do require them at least till we complete writing articles for most of them and the category becomes sufficient. You are welcome to join WP:INEI to help in this regard. Srikanth (ping me) 09:19, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

BLP nightmare?

Can someone else take a look at Amitabh bachchan Controversies, the content is a cut & paste move from Amitabh Bachchan. The reason given for the move was that the main article is too big. However it was 43K before and 36K after the move. Also, moving the content lock, stock and two smoking barrels results in a POV problem on the main article. Looking for another opinion before I just undo the move and AfD the split article (don't think it qualifies G10, but open on that). -SpacemanSpiff 16:51, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

YellowMonkey deleted this yesterday. Since then, the same user recreated the page and has been repeatedly been deleting the content from the main article and has been reverted by multiple editors. Has been warned multiple times, but just blanks their talk page. -SpacemanSpiff 13:02, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
I have redirected it back to the main article. I have also given the user and the IP sock 3RR warning for edit-warring. If they persist in recreating the split without discussion, they will be blocked. Blanking warnings is not an issue, since it only confirms that the warnings have been read by the user. The editor is free to discuss the issue and gain consensus for the split after they have read through WP:BLP and WP:POVFORK. Abecedare (talk) 13:21, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

Proddatur article

Could someone with knowledge of the above town possibly look at the article?

Most of the article looks more like a town directory than a Misplaced Pages article, and I don't know the Project's criteria for the details to be included in articles - I know that it doesn't look right to me, but I don't want to delete tons of it - very few of the temples, mosques, etc appear to have articles on Misplaced Pages.

I have trimmed down the notable residents list - the two remaining are the only ones which had articles (or even mentions - if one of the others had been mentioned in another article, I would have done a piped link to the article they were mentioned in).

Any help would be gratefully received!

Regards (and Happy Diwali to you all) -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 16:36, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

Incidently, if someone who can read Telugu can look at the Telugu article, perhaps there'll be something useful (Google Translate can't help here, I'm afraid!). I've tidied up a bit (and SpacemanSpiff did some work as well), but I've done as much as I can do, not being able to search for (or read) Telugu sources of information. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 19:40, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

Akbar the Great

A discussion is in progress for the improvement of the article. Please provide your inputs. Regards, SBC-YPR (talk) 14:53, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

Arya (journal)

I recently created this article. It has a checkered past, and had at one point been redirected to Collected Works of Sri Aurobindo. I thought the article could be improved, so I fleshed it out. If found to be of relevance, please include a template for this project on the article's talkpage. Thanks, --Aryaman (talk) 19:27, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Help needed in identifying photos of Jaisalmer fort and Mehrangarh fort in Jodhpur

I have a photo I took of Jaisalmer Fort back in 1994 -

which is on the Jaisalmer page. Someone wrote to say recently that it was actually a photo of Mehrangarh fort in Jodhpur. Now, I feel very confident that my photo is of Jaisalmer but when I went looking for other photos both on Wikimedia and using Google I found a lot of confusion between photos of the two forts. It is true that from some angles they look similar - but I believe they can be distinguished if one looks carefully. If you look at the detail in the photo of Mehrangahr at you will see the construction at the right of the photo is very different from that shown in my photo of Jaisalmer

For further evidence - have a look at the stock photo here -

I could be wrong, of course (in which case I apologise) but, whatever, a quick search on WikiMedia and Google will quickly show that, whoever is right, a number of photos of these forts have been misidentied (even on Govt. tourist sites), and it would be great if someone could sort them out.

Is there anyone here who really knows and can identify which fort is which? And, please, could you then go through the pertinent articles in the Misplaced Pages and WikiCommons and correct the mistaken ones? Thank you very much, John Hill (talk) 03:03, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

Looks like the Jodhpur Fort to me. The Jaiselmer fort, from what I recall (it's been a while!) is wider and lower. --RegentsPark (sticks and stones) 12:38, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
