As reported in the January 11, 2006 edition of the Vaughan Weekly , Reale originally lost the Conservative nomination on the first ballot to former Canadian Alliance EDA President Dan Samson. Mr. Samson resigned the nomination in the Fall of 2005 for personal reasons, resulting in the Conservative Party appointing Reale prior to the election.
Reale is a former city councillor in the city of Vaughan from 1985 to 1988. He ran for mayor in 1988, and was defeated by the then incumbent mayor Lorna Jackson. During that election campaign, an altercation occurred between him and municipal councillor Mario Racco outside of a local grocery store. Racco charged Reale with assault, alleging that the mayoral candidate had punched him in the face. Reale argued it was self-defence, and he was acquitted by a judge.
Reale has served as the returning officer for the 1999 and 2003 provincial elections in the riding of Thornhill. He currently works for RE/MAX real estate agency as a sales representative.
Anthony Reale will be running against Liberal backbencher incumbent Susan Kadis in the 2006 federal election. The New Democratic Party candidate is Simon Strelchik, the Green Party of Canada candidate is Lloyd Helferty, and the Progressive Canadian Party candidate is Mark Abramowitz. Reale who is 59, possesses years of experience as a businessman, community leader and politician, living in Thornhill for over 35 years.
