They are often utilized by General Grievous's Bodyguards, the IG-100 MagnaGuards, though Grievous and Obi-Wan Kenobi are also seen using them. They are impenetrable to most weapons, even lightsabers. This is supposedly because they are made of rare Phrik Alloy. The film Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith marked the first time a non-lightsaber weapon that can withstand the cutting power of a lightsaber in a Star Wars film. General Grevious uses one of these to escape, where he throws one into a window and jumps out.
